AGATHA REX
61
CHORUS: (Whispering.) Swift and severe…swift and severe…. swift and
severe.
The lights change. HARRY enters and approaches DR.
CREON.
HARRY: Dad?
DR. CREON: What? Oh yes Harry.
HARRY: Do you have a second?
DR. CREON: Actually, now is not a very good time
DR. CREON turns as if to leave.
HARRY: I just wanted to talk to you about Agatha.
DR. CREON stops. He turns again to face HARRY.
DR. CREON: Agatha. You know, of course, about what she's done?
HARRY: It's all over the school.
CHORUS: (Whispering.) Agatha Rex dyed her hair green.
DR. CREON: You know what I have to do.
HARRY: You have to do what you think is right. You have to follow the
rules.
DR. CREON: (Almost surprised that HARRY would answer that way.)
Exactly! (He claps HARRY on the shoulder.) That's exactly it son. I
must follow the rules. You do see that I have to punish Agatha. I’m
glad that we had this chance to talk.
DR. CREON turns as if to leave again.
HARRY: Would you say that I have good sense?
DR. CREON: What?
HARRY: Would you say that I have good sense? A good head on my
shoulders? That I'm sensible?
DR. CREON: (With a laugh.) I think that you have been brought up to be
very sensible.
HARRY: Ok. (He takes a deep breath and runs a hand through his hair.) I
was wondering if there is another side to the story.
DR. CREON: What other side to what story?
HARRY: Sometimes it's hard being the principal’s son. Sometimes people
don't want to tell me things because they think it will get back to you.
They think I'll tell. On the other hand, sometimes people do tell me
things - things you would never find out about because people don't
like to complain to you.
DR. CREON: And why is that?
HARRY: You scare the heck out of people, dad.
