AHA requires "pass" grade on skills exam &<br />

for certification. Dress comfortably. Required<br />

textbook <strong>to</strong> be read prior <strong>to</strong> class: American<br />

Heart Association: BLS for Healthcare Providers<br />

(latest edition with new 2010 pro<strong>to</strong>cols),<br />

available at <strong>the</strong> QCC Books<strong>to</strong>re.<br />

Note: Students should take Basic (AHX-100)<br />

if more than one year since certification.<br />

MMR immunization pro<strong>of</strong> required at first class.<br />

Required: CPR Certification manda<strong>to</strong>ry, previous<br />

first aid training highly recommended, minimum<br />

12th grade reading level for intense reading and<br />

exam workload, and pass practical skills & complete<br />

clinical rotation on ambulance for certification.<br />

Covers all techniques and operational aspects<br />

<strong>of</strong> an EMT. Demonstration, practice, and<br />

clinical observation are integrated with free<br />

online FEMA classes. To take <strong>the</strong> NYS exam<br />

and become certified, registrants must be<br />

18, fluent in English, and not physically disabled.<br />

Bring <strong>to</strong> 1st class card certifying current<br />

CPR and standard First Aid or CFR credentials.<br />

Attain employee training on external bleeding control, injuries, wound care, asthma and<br />

allergic reactions, (wea<strong>the</strong>r-related) shocks, burns, poisons and sudden illness in <strong>the</strong> workplace.<br />

Learn <strong>to</strong> recognize everyday emergency situations and take appropriate action until<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional help arrives. The American Heart Heartsavers guidelines mandate <strong>the</strong> required<br />

workbook manual be read prior <strong>to</strong> class (available at <strong>the</strong> QCC Books<strong>to</strong>re @ less than $10).<br />
