BARBER AND MASTER BARBER EXAMINATION To schedule an exam by phone 1 Call 800.805.9124 between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. (Eastern Time), Monday through Friday. You must schedule your practical exam at least 10 business days prior to the date you wish to test. 2 At the end of the call, you will be given a number confirming your appointment. Record and keep this confirmation number for your records. Holidays. Testing generally does not occur on the following holidays: New Year’s Day Independence Day Martin Luther King Jr. Day Labor Day Presidents’ Day Thanksgiving Day Memorial Day Christmas Day Additional state holidays may be observed in the state where you schedule your exam appointment. Test centers The theory exam is given on a computer. You may take your theory exam at any Prometric test center in the United States. A complete list of test center locations may be found by going to www.prometric.com/maryland/mdbarber and clicking on the “Do More” button. Alternatively, you may call 800.853.5448. The practical exam consists of actual demonstrations. Practical exams are given only at the test sites listed below. Test Sites Baltimore Area 2505 Lord Baltimore Drive, Suite D-E Baltimore, MD 21204 410.265.8282 Bethesda, MD 8120 Woodmont Avenue Bethesda, MD 20814 Directions From the South: Take I-695 north to Security Blvd. and turn left. Take Security Blvd. to Lord Baltimore Dr. and turn right. The test center is on the righthand side of the street. Take 495 to exit 34. Follow 355 south past NIH (National Institute of Health). Bear right onto Woodmont Avenue, second traffic light turn right into Public parking garage. Bring quarters for meters. Test center locations are subject to change. Be sure to verify the address of and directions to your destination before you leave for your exam. Rescheduling your appointment Important You must pass both the theory and the practical exams within 12 months to be eligible for licensure with the Board. Retaking an exam If you allowed your exam registration to expire or did not pass your exam, you must re-register using one of the methods above. Another exam registration fee is required. To avoid an additional fee, you must contact Prometric to reschedule an exam at least three full business days before the day of your originally scheduled theory exam appointment, and at least 10 full business days before the day of your originally scheduled practical exam appointment.Rescheduling fees are as follows: No fee if you reschedule your theory exam on or before the fourth business day prior to your appointment date. 4 Rev 3
BARBER AND MASTER BARBER EXAMINATION No fee if you reschedule your practical exam on or before the 11th business day prior to your appointment date. $40 fee if you reschedule your theory exam less than three days before your exam. $40 fee if you reschedule your practical exam less than 10 days before your exam. Note This schedule does not include holidays since holidays are not business days. You will need to call earlier if a holiday is involved. You may pay any additional fee with Visa or MasterCard and reschedule your appointment online or by calling Prometric at 800.805.9124. If absent or late for your appointment If you miss your appointment or arrive late and are not allowed to test, you must pay a $40 rescheduling fee before choosing another appointment. This fee will allow you to use your original exam registration. If you are unable to attend your scheduled exam due to illness or emergency, call Prometric. Under certain circumstances, the fee to reschedule may be waived. Prometric reserves the right to request documentation to support any illness or emergency claim. Emergency closings Severe weather or an emergency could require canceling scheduled exams. If this occurs, Prometric will attempt to contact you by phone or e-mail; however, you may check for testing site closures by calling Prometric. If the site is closed, your exam will be rescheduled without a rescheduling fee. If a test center is open for testing and you choose not to appear for testing, your fee will be forfeited and you will need to pay another application fee and another full exam fee. Special test considerations ADA accommodation. If you require testing accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), please call Prometric at 888.226.9406 to obtain an accommodation request form. Reasonable testing accommodations are provided to allow candidates with documented disabilities recognized under the ADA an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge. Submit professional documentation of your disability with your form to help us determine the necessary testing arrangements. Thirty days’ advance notice is required for all special testing arrangements. There is no additional charge for these accommodations. ESL accommodation. Candidates for whom English is a second language and require a word-to-word translation dictionary for the theory exam should call Prometric at 800.805.9124. 5 Rev 3
