protecting the world. Above the two designs is<br />

the inscription NATIONS UNIES and below the<br />

design in larger print is the name of the country<br />

HELVETIA with the value below the name of<br />

the country. <strong>The</strong> size of the 5Fr is 25mm x 41mm<br />

and the design shows the Palais de Nations, the<br />

headquarters of the Nations Unies in Geneva.<br />

Above this design is the inscription NATIONS<br />

UNIES and below the design in larger print is the<br />

name of the country HELVETIA with the value.<br />

This set of stamps was issued in 1964 and has the<br />

cancellation date ‘- 3 11 64 -11’and encircling the<br />

cancellation is the inscription ‘GENEVE 10’ and<br />

‘NATIONS UNIES’.<br />

Bureau International du Travail<br />

<strong>The</strong> International Labour Organization is a specialized<br />

agency of the United Nations founded in<br />

1919 with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.<br />

<strong>The</strong> corner stone of the new ILO headquarters<br />

building in Geneva was laid in May 1970 and the<br />

building was completed in 1974. <strong>The</strong> basic purpose<br />

of the ILO is to improve the working conditions<br />

through the combined efforts of government,<br />

management and labour.<br />

Approximately five years later (June 10, 1969),<br />

the Bureau International du Travail overprinted a<br />

stamp to commemorate the Visit of Pope Paul VI<br />

on June 10, 1969. <strong>The</strong> stamp overprinted was the<br />

orange colour 30 centimes stamp from the previous<br />

set. <strong>The</strong> black overprint in four lines is “Visite<br />

du Pape Paul VI Genève 10 juin 1969”.<br />

Five years later (May 30, 1974), Helvetia issued<br />

a stamp on the new premises of the Bureau<br />

International du Travail. <strong>The</strong> size of this stamp is<br />

25.5mm (vertical) and 35.5mm (horizontal) and<br />

was printed by Courvoiser SA. <strong>The</strong> design of<br />

the stamp shows the new building of the Bureau<br />

International du Travail in the centre. At the top<br />

right is the symbol of this Agency BIT with the<br />

usual two entwined wreaths surrounding it. <strong>The</strong><br />

inscription at the top is ‘Nouveau bâtiment’ and<br />

the inscription at the bottom shows the value ‘80’<br />

on the left and the name of the country ‘HELVETIA’<br />

on the right. <strong>The</strong> first day of cancellation shows<br />

the inscription ‘BIT JOUR D’EMISSION 30 5 74’<br />

in the centre with the inscription ‘1211 GENEVE’<br />

‘BUREAU INTERNATIONAL DU TRAVAIL 1211<br />

GENEVE’ encircling it.<br />

Organisation Météorologique Mondiale<br />

<strong>The</strong> World Meteorological Organization (WMO)<br />

was founded as a specialized agency of the United<br />

Nations in 1950 with its headquarters in Geneva,<br />

Switzerland. Its basic purpose is to improve weather<br />

observations and to adopt common standards<br />

for weather reporting.<br />

<strong>The</strong> set consists of six stamps in two sizes and<br />

two designs. <strong>The</strong> size of the 5, 10 and 50 is 22.5mm<br />

x 28.5 mm and the design shows the globe with<br />

two workers carrying two pick axes. <strong>The</strong> size<br />

of the 20, 30, 60 and 2Fr is 23.5mm x 29mm and<br />

the design shows a globe, chimney and wheel.<br />

Surrounding this design is the inscription BUREAU<br />

INTERNATIONAL DU TRAVAIL beginning on<br />

the left side and ending on the right side. For the<br />

smaller sized stamps the value is then shown. <strong>The</strong><br />

name of the country HELVETIA is shown below in<br />

larger print. For the larger sized stamps the value<br />

is shown before the name of the country. This set<br />

of stamps was issued in 1964 and has the cancellation<br />

date ‘- 3 11 64 -11’, encircling the cancellation<br />

is the inscription ‘GENEVE 22’ and ‘BUREAU<br />

INTERNATIONAL DU TRAVAIL’.<br />

<strong>The</strong> final Helvetia set consists of six stamps in<br />

one size and two designs. <strong>The</strong> size of the 5, 10, 20,<br />

30, 50, 60 and 2Fr is 23.5mm x 29mm. <strong>The</strong> design<br />

of the denominations 5, 10 and 50 shows clouds,<br />

the sun and rain. <strong>The</strong> design of the denominations<br />

20, 30, 60 and 2Fr shows the weather directional<br />

indicator. Surrounding this design is the inscription<br />

ORGANISATION METEOROLOGIQUE<br />

MONDIALE beginning on the left side and ending<br />

on the right side. <strong>The</strong> name of the country<br />

HELVETIA is shown below in larger print with the<br />

denomination of the stamp. This set of stamps was<br />
