addition to those we have Lepanthes (many), Dresslerella (all), Platystele (all), Scaphosepalum (several), Restrepia (several) Pleurothallopsis (most), Lepanthopsis (most), Barbosella (all), and Stelis (many). Stelis has been recircumscribed to now include many other genera, as has the mega-genus Pleurothallis. The latter genus has many wonderful miniature plants as does many of those removed and raised to generic level, e.g. Specklinia (most species) and Acianthera (many). 2
Distantly related to the Pleurothallids and also from the New World is the Laeliinae, a large, wellknown and much loved group of orchids that includes popular genera like Cattleya, Epidendrum and Encyclia. Many of these groups, including the Laeliinae, have been taxonomically rearranged, and these changes may be hard to accept. The genus Cattleya for example, now includes familiar genera, e.g. most Laelia, specifically Sophronitis, the L. purpurata group, the L. pumila group, and the rupicolous species, most of which have some to many miniature species. Other Laeliinae with some or all miniature species include Isabelia, Leptotes, and Epidendrum as well as the monospecific genera Dinema and Alamania. The Oncidiinae, another New World group, has many popular genera such as Oncidium, Odontoglossum (now included in Oncidium), Cochlioda (again now in Oncidium), Brassia, Miltonia and Miltoniopsis. Also included in the Oncidiinae are the entire Ornithocephalinae and Telipogoninae, shown to be genetically allied. Some highly collectible examples of desirable genera that miniature lovers would 3
