It helps relieve low back discomfort and can be moved from one seat to another since it is fitted to the individual and not a particular seat. The BRS model is 15" wide and most versatile. It fits office chairs, car and truck seats, even adult size (18") wheelchairs. It can be used on any existing seat bottom and backrest which is too soft to provide sufficient support under the hips and behind the lumbar spine. The Sacro-Ease units are easy to fit, involving manually bending the backrest over the edge of a counter top (a vice is not recommended). The Controlled Ankle Motion Walker (C.A.M.) is a new, unique way to provide range of motion at the ankle in the rehabilitation of injuries to the ankle or foot. The adjustable double action ankle joints provide a fixed position or range of motion. You can lock in dorsiflexion or plantar flexion or allow up to 45 degrees total range of motion. The C.A.M. restricts inversion/eversion. It is very lightweightj{ made of high-tech plastic and has strong malleable uprights. A one piece stirrup is molded into the footplate and there are adjustable straps with velcro closures. The rocker has the roll point located on a continuous radius to give optimum walking assistance. Flat spots are eliminated for a smooth patient gait. A slip resistant sole has been bonded to the rocker. The C.A.M. is very popular for achilles tendonitis and non-displaced fractures of distal tibia/fibula following initial casting. Four foam pads are included with the C.A.M. to fill extra space (if needed) at either side of the ankle, at the heel and over the instep. It is available in one size only which will fit 90% of adults. Your stocking requirements are low as it can be used on a left or right foot. Letters to the Editor Dear Editor: I think that the Winter, 1987 issue of Clinical Prosthetics and Orthotics turned out nicely, but am dismayed to see that editorial policy has dictated that "residual limb" and "limb" be used instead of "stump." You will recall the editorial you published some years ago in which I gave what I believe are very valid reasons for not using "residual limb" in scientific and technical publications. I haven't changed my mind on this and I wouldn't want the readers of C.P.O. to think that I have. I have no quarrel with clinicians avoiding the use of "stumps" in dealing with patients, but "residual limb" and simply "limb" are usually thought of, quite correctly, as the unaffected one and at best is ambiguous if not outright misleading, two things that should be avoided at all costs in scientific and technical writing. In my opinion the use of "residual limb" is an affectation that should be avoided by those who should know better. Sincerely, A.
