General Information<br />

Course Description<br />

<strong>Coronary</strong> <strong>Artery</strong> <strong>Disease</strong>: <strong>Prevention</strong>, <strong>Detection</strong> & Treatment is designed to provide<br />

practicing physicians <strong>and</strong> healthcare staff with an in-depth overview of the<br />

entire spectrum of coronary artery disease. Novel risk factors, state-of-the-art<br />

imaging technologies, <strong>and</strong> new management strategies for patients with acute<br />

coronary artery disease will be highlighted. The evolving role of<br />

revascularization, interventional cardiology, coronary surgery, <strong>and</strong> options for<br />

the management of advanced non-revascularizable coronary artery disease will<br />

be discussed. Population trends <strong>and</strong> future directions in new scientific<br />

breakthroughs such as cell therapy for patients with coronary artery disease will<br />

be reviewed.<br />

Course Learning Objectives<br />

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:<br />

• Distinguish lifestyle interventions that improve cardiovascular health <strong>and</strong><br />

underst<strong>and</strong> the effects of diabetes, obesity, <strong>and</strong> metabolic syndrome;<br />

• Describe the latest diagnostic <strong>and</strong> management strategies for the acute<br />

coronary syndromes;<br />

• Incorporate the use of newer imaging modalities in the detection <strong>and</strong><br />

treatment of complications of myocardial ischemia;<br />

• Determine the risks <strong>and</strong> benefits of screening, early detection <strong>and</strong> prevention<br />

in coronary artery disease; <strong>and</strong>,<br />

• Recognize the latest diagnostic <strong>and</strong> management strategies for acute ischemic<br />

events <strong>and</strong> the latest information on newer platelets <strong>and</strong> thrombin inhibitors.<br />

Attendance at this <strong>Mayo</strong> course does not indicate nor guarantee competence or<br />

proficiency in the performance of any procedures which may be discussed or<br />

taught in this course.<br />

Intended Audience<br />

The course would be of interest for cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, <strong>and</strong><br />

internists as well as physician assistants <strong>and</strong> nurse practitioners managing<br />

patients with coronary artery disease.<br />

Credit<br />

College of Medicine, <strong>Mayo</strong> <strong>Clinic</strong>, is accredited by the Accreditation Council for<br />

Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for<br />

physicians.<br />

November 2-4, 2013. The program will be held at the Four Seasons Las Vegas<br />

in Las Vegas, Nevada. The program will be held in the Gr<strong>and</strong> Ballroom.<br />

Attending <strong>Coronary</strong> <strong>Artery</strong> <strong>Disease</strong>: <strong>Prevention</strong>, <strong>Detection</strong> & Treatment will allow<br />

participants to experience education <strong>and</strong> enjoy the dynamic location of Las<br />

Vegas. After the session, enjoy world-class entertainment <strong>and</strong> shows or enjoy<br />

one of the many culinary delights the city has to offer.<br />

Guest rooms have been reserved for attendees <strong>and</strong> their guests with special<br />

course rates at the Four Seasons Las Vegas for $225 single/double. In order to<br />

receive the special rate, reservations must be made before the room block is<br />
