• Jail authorities pushed Krishna’s body into the car and forced the relatives to
leave. Krishna was immediately taken to Telco Hospital where Krishna was
declared dead on arrival. The post-mortem report of the autopsy declared
that he died of asthma.

• Rabindranath Das, the Trinamul supporter who, police claimed drowned in
Subhas Sarobar on 10 May 2001, actually died of fatal blows to the head, the
post mortem report stated.
• Rabindranath’s family and local Trinamul workers said he jumped into the
lake to save himself from a police lathi charge. Rabindranath could not
swim and, as he was trying to get out of the lake, at least seven police
constables beat him on the head and shoulders.
• Mrs. Sadhana Das, Rabindranath’s widow, lodged a FIR alleging that police
beat her husband to death.
• Three of the responsible Kolkata police officers were denied anticipatory
bail by the Calcutta High Court on Friday in the related case.

• Mr. Tapas Thander, aged 25, was allegedly murdered inside Katwa jail on 5
September 2001. The inquest report prepared by SDPO Mr. Ajay Prasad
and the local police officials stated that blood stains could be traced in
Tapas’ right ear and nose, and that his testicles and thighs bore injury marks
which indicated he was tortured.
