• Ashok’s wife Ms. Papia Dey Sarkar alleged that Ashok was severely beaten<br />

in jail. She said that there were injury marks all over his body, but also<br />

admitted that Ashok had liver problems.<br />

• The inquest report on the custodial death revealed that there was a black<br />

patch on Ashok’s calf below right knee and an uneven horizontal mark on the<br />

front portion of the head. Ashok was found bleeding from the left nostril.<br />

• Ashok’s relatives alleged that he was arrested on false charges. They also<br />

alleged that a detective department investigating officer handling the murder<br />

case had threatened them pay him a bribe or “face the consequences”.<br />
