Soumyendu Mondal, Kharagpur<br />

7 July 2004<br />

• Kharagpur police took Soumyendu Mondal, aged 22, from his home on 7<br />

July 2004. The police told the court that Mondal was killed when he tried to<br />

flee from the jeep on the way to the police station.<br />

• Because the post-mortem report did not corroborate the police department’s<br />

claim, the high court directed the CBI to probe the death of Mondal.<br />

25 September 2004<br />

• Dulal Faradar was arrested on 23 September 2004 on the charge of illegally<br />

storing and smuggling ganja. After Faradar was remanded to judicial custody,<br />

he was transferred to Krishnagar District Correctional Home. There, he<br />

allegedly committed suicide around 1.00am.<br />

• Dulal was found hanging from the ceiling with a towel around his neck.<br />
