Propose a new journal with
Emerald
Emerald has a strong commitment to innovation and quality in publishing, and prides itself on being at the leading
edge of scholarly research.
We are actively seeking to enhance or extend our portfolio via journal launch (subject- and regionallyfocused
titles or partnership journals) and invite Proposing Editors to contact us with ideas for new
journals.
What are the key criteria for a successful
new journal launch?
• Once completed, the fi nal proposal is presented to
the Board of Directors, who make the fi nal decision.
• The Editor must be an enthusiastic deliverer and
have an established network of contacts
• Strong subject-matter that meets a particular need
not currently addressed by existing publications.
How will the new journal contribute to the body of
knowledge? Will it infl uence regulatory change or
industry practices? Is it a growing topic of interest or
an unfulfi lled niche?
• Clear differentiation from other journals/products in
the fi eld
• A clearly defi ned target market that should be easily
reachable
We recommend at least 12 months between a new
launch journal being approved by the Emerald Board
and the fi rst issue being published. This ensures
maximum promotional opportunities and suffi cient time
to attract papers.
What are the benefits of being an Editor at
Emerald?
• Professional and close support from a dedicated
Publishing team
• Annual honorarium for editing the journal and
annual conference allowance
• Tangible benefi ts for the end-user
• International contributions and target market
• A clear indication of relevant conferences and other
promotional opportunities
• An available source of good quality content.
What will happen to your proposal, once
submitted?
• The proposing Editor must complete a journal
proposal form found on our website at www.
emeraldinsight.com/products/new/propose.htm
• The proposal form is then evaluated by relevant
Emerald staff and external experts in the given fi eld.
Based on the feedback received, we work with the
Proposing Editor to refi ne the proposal. This
process can take up to three months
• ScholarOne Manuscripts online submission and
review system
• A quality-assured in-house production service
• Production of promotional literature and dedicated
journal home page
• Access (via Emerald) to the Emerald Literati
database for promotional messages, consisting of
more than 70,000 researchers and scholars
worldwide
the journals listed on abstracting & indexing
services and rankings such as ISI
