reading score at 2003, GPA score in 2002-2003, Students’ midterm score at 2004,<br />

Scholastic Reading Inventory Lexile Spring 2003, and students’ percentage of days<br />

attending school, were standardized to make interpretation of the results easier. .<br />

System Three<br />

Measures: <strong>The</strong> student-level predictors for the OLS regression included MSA<br />

reading score at 2003 (MSA_READ_SCORE_03), MSA mathematics score at 2003<br />

(MSA_MATH_SCORE_03), days present in school (Present), Free and Reducedprice<br />

Meals (FARMS03), special education programs (SPED03), and English<br />

language learner (ELL03). In addition, the following six school-level predictors were<br />

included in the regression: percentage of students in special education at the high<br />

school (HSSPED), high school percentage of ELL students (HSELL), high school<br />

percentage of FARMS-eligible students (HSFARMS), average daily attendance rate<br />

(<strong>HSA</strong>TTEND), percentage of highly qualified teachers (HSHQT), and aggregated<br />

school attendance rate for 2004 (Sch_att). Every student-level continuous indicator,<br />

including MSA reading score at 2003, MSA mathematics scores at 2003, and days<br />

present in school, was standardized.<br />

Measures: <strong>The</strong> eight student-level predictors for the OLS regression included<br />

MSA reading score at 2003 (MSA_READ_SCORE_03), MSA mathematics score at<br />

2003 (MSA_MATH_SCORE_03), percentage of days attending school (Attend),<br />

middle school GPA (GPA03), Free and Reduced-price Meals (FARMS03) – an<br />

indicator of the number of students of poverty, special education students (SPED03),<br />

and English Language Learners (ELL03).
