Tabletop puppetry, a variation of bunraku (the traditional Japanese
style of overt puppetry), is a hallmark of all Thistle Theatre
productions. This workshop allows you to experience first-hand this
challenging and rewarding style of puppetry!
Bringing Picture Books to Life
Through Shadow Puppetry
Presented by Sara Burmenko, Distance Learning

This hands-on, interactive workshop is geared toward anyone
working with preschool-aged children. learn about puppet design,
building, and manipulation, as well as how to create a shadow screen
and simple scenery.
International Puppet Celebration
Presented by Center for Puppetry Arts
Education Department
learn about different puppet traditions from around the world
during this exploration of the rich culture of puppetry. Celebrate
the intersection of geography, history, social studies, and the arts!
Watch authentic and replica puppets come to life during this
entertaining and educational hands-on presentation.
Puppet Slam Primer
Presented by Beau Brown, Host/Curator,
National Puppet Slam (2011, 2012) and
Host/Producer, Puckin’ Fuppet Show (Atlanta, GA)
Puppet Slam (noun): A curated collection of short-form pieces of adult
puppet theater. After discussing what makes a great Slam piece,
participants will divide into groups to brainstorm and develop their
own short works.
