Keynote Speakers<br />

Patricia Bluteau (UK)<br />

Patricia Bluteau is Associate Director<br />

for the Centre of Interprofessional<br />

elearning within the Faculty of<br />

Health and Life Sciences at Coventry<br />

University, UK. Patricia has a<br />

background in interprofessional<br />

education, mental health nursing<br />

and counselling. She continues to<br />

practice part time as a counsellor<br />

in independent practice. Research interests include,<br />

managing curriculum change against the backdrop of<br />

the challenges of delivering interprofessional education,<br />

the influence of gender on interprofessional teams,<br />

communication between students in interprofessional<br />

groups in an online environment. Patricia has recently<br />

co-edited a book with Ann Jackson, Interprofessional<br />

Education – Making it Happen.<br />

Jane Drummond (Canada)<br />

Dr Drummond is the Vice-Provost<br />

(Health Sciences Council) at the<br />

University of Alberta and is the<br />

academic lead of key health<br />

science interdisciplinary and<br />

interprofessional initiatives,<br />

including the Edmonton Clinic<br />

(North). <strong>The</strong> Health Sciences<br />

Council has been in existence for<br />

over fifteen years. It has representation from the eight<br />

health sciences faculties (Medicine and Dentistry, Nursing,<br />

Rehabilitation Medicine, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical<br />

Sciences, Physical Education and Recreation, Agriculture,<br />

Forestry and Home Economics, School of Public Health,<br />

Augustana Faculty), the Vice President Research, and<br />

Capital Health. As Vice-Provost, Dr Drummond works<br />

with the council members and a core team to provide<br />

academic leadership, strategic direction, administrative<br />

management, and facilitation of partnering between<br />

the health science faculties and public, government and<br />

private entities to promote interdisciplinary health science<br />

learning, discovery, and citizenship at the University of<br />

Alberta.<br />

Dr Drummond has been a nurse scholar for over 30<br />

years. In her nursing practice she champions a capacity<br />

orientation where the strengths of children and families<br />

are emphasized and enhanced.<br />

Marlene DrySDAle (Australia)<br />

Marlene is Head of the Indigenous<br />

Health Unit, Monash University<br />

Department of Rural and Indigenous<br />

Health.<br />

As an Indigenous Australian,<br />

Marlene’s career has been devoted<br />

to working for her people. Marlene<br />

was Chief Investigator for a National<br />

project titled Footprints Forwards “Better strategies for the<br />

recruitment, retention and support of Indigenous medical<br />

students”. She is currently involved with a number of<br />

committees and professional associations.<br />

In her current position she is involved in the recruitment of<br />

medical, nursing and allied health Indigenous students as<br />

well as research.<br />

Marlene was a recipient of the 2007 LIMELight (Leaders<br />

In Indigenous Medical Education) Leadership Award for<br />

Outstanding Leadership by an Individual.<br />

Des GORMAN (New Zealand)<br />

Des is Head of the University of<br />

Auckland’s School of Medicine<br />

and Professorial Chair in Medicine.<br />

Professor Gorman has a strong<br />

interest in the development and<br />

maintenance of an effective health<br />

workforce. He holds dual Australian<br />

and New Zealand citizenship and is<br />

of both European and New Zealand<br />

Mâori (Ngapuhi iwi) ethnicity. In part because of personal<br />

experience, he is very committed to promoting indigenous<br />

peoples’ health. His clinical interests are in brain injuries,<br />

toxicology and occupational medicine. He also has a special<br />

interest in the health of divers and mariners having served<br />

in Royal Australian Navy and Royal New Zealand Navy.<br />

During service in the former, trained as a Submarine Officer<br />

in the United Kingdom and as a Clearance Diving Officer in<br />

Australia and North America.<br />

Students <strong>Net</strong>work, the Canadian National Health Science<br />

Students Association, <strong>The</strong> Student Interprofessional Society<br />

Medical University of South Carolina, <strong>The</strong> International<br />

Medical Equality Student Society, and the CAIPE Student<br />

<strong>Net</strong>work. <strong>The</strong>y will represent the views of students both<br />

present at the conference and contributing from a distance<br />

from universities and practice fields throughout the world.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y look forward to engaging, challenging and sharing<br />

their aspirations for a more collaborative future.<br />

Ann JACKSON (UK)<br />

Ann Jackson is Associate Professor<br />

of interprofessional education<br />

within the Institute of Clinical<br />

Education at Warwick Medical School,<br />

University of Warwick, UK. Ann has<br />

a background in interprofessional<br />

education, nursing, midwifery and<br />

health visiting. She was awarded<br />

the Butterworth memorial teaching<br />

excellence award in 2008 for her work in interprofessional<br />

education. Her research interests include the service<br />

user participation in interprofessional education, the<br />

development of service user multi media narratives,<br />

student and facilitator perspectives of interprofessional<br />

education. Ann has recently co-edited a book with Patricia<br />

Bluteau, Interprofessional Education – Making it Happen.<br />

Lorelei LINGARD (Canada)<br />

Lorelei Lingard is a leading researcher<br />

in the study of communication and<br />

collaboration on healthcare teams.<br />

She is a Professor in the Department<br />

of Medicine at the University of<br />

Western <strong>On</strong>tario (UWO), and the<br />

inaugural Director of the Centre for<br />

Education Research & Innovation at<br />

the Schulich School of Medicine &<br />

Dentistry at UWO. Lorelei received her PhD in Rhetoric from<br />

Simon Fraser University in 1998. Her research investigates<br />

the nature of communication on interprofessional<br />

healthcare teams in a variety of clinical settings, including<br />

the operating room, the intensive care unit, the internal<br />

medicine ward, the adult rehabilitation unit, and the<br />

family health centre. She is particularly interested in how<br />

communication patterns influence patient safety, and how<br />

learning to talk in sanctioned ways shapes the professional<br />

identity of novices. Lorelei’s research program is funded by<br />

CIHR, SSHRC, Health Canada, MOHLTC, the RCPSC and other<br />

agencies. She has been the recipient of numerous awards<br />

for her research, including a Canadian Institutes of Health<br />

Research New Investigator award (2003-2008).<br />

Ratie MPOFU (South Africa)<br />

A Zimbabwean, permanent resident<br />

in the Republic of South Africa. She<br />

is Dean of the Faculty of Community<br />

and Health Sciences, University of<br />

the Western Cape, presiding over<br />

the following Schools: Public Health;<br />

Natural Medicine; and Nursing;<br />

and Departments: Psychology,<br />

Social Work; Sports Recreation and<br />

Exercise Science; Physiotherapy; Occupational <strong>The</strong>rapy;<br />

and Human Ecology and Dietetics. Ratie has administration<br />

and academic experience in Physiotherapy and health<br />

sciences in UK, Zimbabwe and South Africa. She has lead<br />

collaborative research projects in CBE, youth wellness and<br />

sports science for development. Ratie is a member of the<br />

Collaboration for Health Equity through Education and<br />

Research (CHEER) involving 9 health sciences faculties<br />

in South Africa with special focus on educating health<br />

personnel for rural practice. Her particular interest is in<br />

interprofessional learning and practice in partnership with<br />

service providers and community members.<br />

Jill THISTLETHWAITE (UK)<br />

Professor Jill Thistlethwaite is<br />

Director of the Institute of Clinical<br />

Education at Warwick Medical<br />

School and President of InterEd. She<br />

continues to practise for one day<br />

per week as a general practitioner<br />

and has a long standing interest<br />

in interprofessional education and<br />

collaborative practice. Jill is an Associate Editor of the<br />

Journal of Interprofessional Care and of the Clinical Teacher,<br />

and holds the position of Adjunct Professor in IPECP at<br />

Auckland University of Technology. Prior to her move back<br />

to the UK in 2008, she was a co-investigator with L-TIPP<br />

(Aus) – Learning and Teaching for Interprofessional Practice<br />

(Australia) based in Sydney.<br />

<strong>The</strong> registration desk will be located in the Banquets Foyer on Level 1 of the Novotel Sydney Manly Pacific. Staff at the<br />

registration desk will be happy to help with any queries.<br />

Name Badges<br />

All delegates will be given a name badge at registration. This badge will be the official pass to sessions, teas, lunches and<br />

official social events. It is necessary for delegates to wear their name badges at all times when on-site for security reasons.<br />
