‣ Apartments are in great condition
Uppers:
“Very convenient location- right next to the commons, bus
stop right in front of our building. And always nice to be
down the hill from Chapter House instead of up...”
“Parking is available very close by for $61/ Month. Very
nice, new building. Floor to ceiling windows are a big plus,
and the apartment is very bright.”
“Best place to live in Ithaca in terms of transportation,
accessibility to restaurants, parking, quality of apartment,
everything.”
“Apartment size is much bigger than the average in Ithaca.”
“Apartments are very nice in comparison to other housing
options - 3 years old, ‘green’ features (e.g., large windows,
efficient heat/cooling), painted vibrant colors. Parking is
available in adjacent garages, and bus stop is right in front
of the building.”
Downers:
× “You must call the apartment building manager to be
placed on a wait list. Only negative is that footsteps are
VERY loud above the units.”
× “I would recommend getting requests from the leasing
agent in writing.”
Key selling points:
‣ Plenty of Johnson neighbors
‣ On-site office
Uppers:
“Great location: good proximity to Collegetown and Sage.”
“Lots of space for what you pay for.”
“Pretty quiet and easy to live in.”
“Easy, flat, walk to Sage. A lot of Johnsonites stay here and
we want more next year! Not ideal if you're bringing a
family. Very ideal if you're bringing just yourself.”
Downers:
× “Management is very unhelpful; our move-in was a
disaster; many others had similar problems. Do not
recommend living here as a spouse.”
× “Traffic facing Dryden/Maple Ave. is very loud in the
morning, but otherwise quiet and private. Snow plowing in
winter is varied and unreliable for outdoor parking.”
× “Lack of response to maintenance or service requests.”
× “During Christmas, many UPS and FedEx boxes were stolen
since they were not left in the building management office.
Mgmt. has now fixed this so that deliveries are accepted at
the front desk.”
× “Poor fire alarms, serious lack of heat.”
× “Fairview manor is very old and overpriced. They also state
in their lease that they keep $300 of your security deposit
for cleaning. This is a huge overcharge and most people's
apartments don't actually get cleaned before they move
out. Essentially Fairview just pockets the money.”
where I lived for the first year, pales in comparison.”
“Brand new accommodations however they are
relatively expensive.”
here so it can be a fun place to live.”
Clean. Easy flat walk to Sage. Close to Fairview to visit
is separate bathroom.”
“Apartment condition is the nicest I have seen in Ithaca.”
“I love Summerhill. It’s extremely cozy, and the perfect
distance from campus.”
“We rented site unseen because we didn't have luck
finding anything while we were visiting the area that suited
our needs. We are not undergraduates and do not want to
live like ones--Summer Hill was a good fit to address that
concern.”
Downers:
× “Landlord is very cheap, does not clean the snow; doesn't
“Bob is friendly. It's a good place for the couples. It's a
bit far if you're a single.”
“We have a large dog, and it was tough finding dog
friendly housing in Ithaca. Westview has been great.
There's a large backyard where she can run around,
and there are other tenants with dogs that she plays
with. It's a little further out of town, but it's great if
you have pets.”
