Code 2 – Sales unit packaging<br />
This is the packaging of products presented as sales<br />
units, as displayed for consumers to buy from the<br />
shelves in supermarkets. It can be the packaging<br />
that is in direct contact with the product or a<br />
packaging that can contain one or several other<br />
packaging items in direct contact with the product,<br />
or wedging or outer packaging.<br />
Code 3 – Wedging<br />
This is a packaging element added to the packaging<br />
that is in direct contact with the product or with the<br />
packaging of the sales unit. Wedging blocks the<br />
product inside the packaging of the sales unit,<br />
buffers impacts or separates products from each<br />
other. Wedging can be easily eliminated by the final<br />
consumer without having any inf<strong>lu</strong>ence on the use<br />
or consumption of the product.<br />
Code 4 – Outer packaging<br />
This is a packaging that is added on top of the<br />
packaging in direct contact with the product or the<br />
packaging of the sales unit. It makes the<br />
presentation, the selling, the bundling or the<br />
transport of the product easier for consumers. It<br />
guarantees the integrity of the product. It can be<br />
eliminated easily by the end consumer without<br />
having any inf<strong>lu</strong>ence on the use or consumption of<br />
the product.<br />

Code 1 -<br />
Packaging is in direct contact with the product<br />
This packaging stays with the product until it is<br />
consumed or used for the first time. It inc<strong>lu</strong>des all the<br />
Code 5 – Secondary or bundle packaging<br />
This is any packaging designed to make up – on the<br />
point of sales – a bundle of a certain amount of sales<br />
units, be the bundle sold as such to the final user or<br />
consumer or be only used as a bundle to replenish<br />
the shelves on the point of sale.<br />

This is any packaging designed in order to facilitate<br />
the handling or transporting of a certain amount of<br />
sales units or bundle packaging so as to avoid the<br />
damages linked to the handling and transporting of<br />

Code 7 – Service packaging<br />
This is any packaging filled and/or created on the<br />
point of sale “in presence of the consumer” generally<br />
at the time of purchase – shopping bag, fruit and<br />
vegetable bag, pastry box, bread bag, wrapping<br />

Primary packaging<br />
001 The Glass fee<br />
applies to all glass packaging items except<br />
for light bulbs, Pyrex, crystal, opaline and<br />
f<strong>lu</strong>orine-based packaging items. For the<br />
latter, the price applicable is the Other Non-<br />
Recoverable scale price.<br />
002 The Paper/Cardboard fee<br />
applies to all paper/cardboard packaging<br />
that contains less than 15% in weight of<br />
other g<strong>lu</strong>ed or laminated materials i.e. that<br />
cannot be easily separated by consumers.<br />
For packaging items beyond the 15%<br />
percentage, the Other Recoverable or Other<br />
Non-Recoverable scale prices shall apply<br />
according to the rules explained hereafter.<br />
003 The Steel fee<br />
applies to all packaging items that have more<br />
than 90% weight in steel. Under this<br />
percentage, the Other Non-Recoverable<br />
scale price shall apply.<br />
004 The A<strong>lu</strong>minum fee<br />
applies to all packaging items that have more<br />
than 50% weight in a<strong>lu</strong>minum of a minimum<br />
thickness of 50 microns. Under this<br />
percentage, the Other Non-Recoverable<br />
scale price shall apply.<br />
005 The PET fee<br />
only applies to PET bottles, to their caps and<br />
to their shoulders. Any PET packaging item<br />
other than bottles or flasks, as well as their<br />
caps are being applied the Other<br />
Recoverable scale price.<br />

006 The PVC fee<br />
only applies to PVC bottles, to their caps and<br />
to their shoulders. Any PVC packaging item<br />
other than bottles or flasks, as well as their<br />
caps are being applied the Other<br />
Recoverable scale price.<br />
007 The HDPE fee<br />
only applies to HDPE bottles and their caps.<br />
Any HDPE packaging item other than bottles<br />
or flasks, as well as their caps are being<br />
applied the Other Recoverable scale price.<br />
008 The Beverage Carton fee<br />
applies to any laminated packaging – with or<br />
without seal – made of cardboard/plastic or<br />
cardboard/a<strong>lu</strong>minum/plastic, used to pack<br />
liquids – mainly milk, milk-based beverages<br />
and fruit juices or fabric softeners and<br />
detergents (refill). A<strong>lu</strong>minum and/or plastics<br />
must represent more than 15% of the weight<br />
of the packaging item.<br />
009 The Other Recoverable fee<br />
applies to all packaging elements that are<br />
not covered by the previous prices but are<br />
made of materials considered as<br />
recoverable (codes: 201, 202, 203, 302, 401,<br />
402, 403, 404, 405, 502, 504, 505, 510, 601,<br />
and 602).<br />
Secondary and Tertiary Packaging<br />
102 *The fee for commercial<br />
Paper/Cardboard packaging<br />
applies to secondary and tertiary packaging<br />
– i.e. bundling and transport packaging –<br />
made of cardboard and/or paper. These are<br />
mainly cardboard boxes and cardboard<br />
wedging.<br />
109 *The fee for commercial Other Materials<br />
packaging<br />
applies to secondary and tertiary packaging<br />
– i.e. bundling and transport packaging –<br />
made of plastic and other materials. These<br />
are mainly plastic films and trays,<br />
polystyrene wedging elements, etc.<br />
* These packaging materials must be<br />
declared but they will only be invoiced to you<br />
retroactively to January 1 st 2002 based on<br />
the specific fee applicable to bundling and<br />
transport packaging (Code 102 –<br />
commercial Paper/Cardboard, Code109 –<br />
commercial Other Materials like plastic films,<br />
etc.) The calculation takes into account the<br />
specific cost inherent to the collecting,<br />
sorting and recycling of these packaging<br />
flows.<br />
010 The Other Non-Recoverable fee<br />
applies to all packaging elements and/or<br />
materials that do not fulfill the conditions for<br />
the application of the aforementioned fees.<br />
