Code 2 – Sales unit packaging
This is the packaging of products presented as sales
units, as displayed for consumers to buy from the
shelves in supermarkets. It can be the packaging
that is in direct contact with the product or a
packaging that can contain one or several other
packaging items in direct contact with the product,
or wedging or outer packaging.
Code 3 – Wedging
This is a packaging element added to the packaging
that is in direct contact with the product or with the
packaging of the sales unit. Wedging blocks the
product inside the packaging of the sales unit,
buffers impacts or separates products from each
other. Wedging can be easily eliminated by the final
consumer without having any influence on the use
or consumption of the product.
Code 4 – Outer packaging
This is a packaging that is added on top of the
packaging in direct contact with the product or the
packaging of the sales unit. It makes the
presentation, the selling, the bundling or the
transport of the product easier for consumers. It
guarantees the integrity of the product. It can be
eliminated easily by the end consumer without
having any influence on the use or consumption of
the product.

Code 1 -
Packaging is in direct contact with the product
This packaging stays with the product until it is
consumed or used for the first time. It includes all the
Code 5 – Secondary or bundle packaging
This is any packaging designed to make up – on the
point of sales – a bundle of a certain amount of sales
units, be the bundle sold as such to the final user or
consumer or be only used as a bundle to replenish
the shelves on the point of sale.

Code 6 – Tertiary or transport packaging
This is any packaging designed in order to facilitate
the handling or transporting of a certain amount of
sales units or bundle packaging so as to avoid the
damages linked to the handling and transporting of
the goods.
Code 7 – Service packaging
This is any packaging filled and/or created on the
point of sale “in presence of the consumer” generally
at the time of purchase – shopping bag, fruit and
vegetable bag, pastry box, bread bag, wrapping
paper for meat products, etc.

Fees
(E column)
Primary packaging
001 The Glass fee
applies to all glass packaging items except
for light bulbs, Pyrex, crystal, opaline and
fluorine-based packaging items. For the
latter, the price applicable is the Other Non-
Recoverable scale price.
002 The Paper/Cardboard fee
applies to all paper/cardboard packaging
that contains less than 15% in weight of
other glued or laminated materials i.e. that
cannot be easily separated by consumers.
For packaging items beyond the 15%
percentage, the Other Recoverable or Other
Non-Recoverable scale prices shall apply
according to the rules explained hereafter.
003 The Steel fee
applies to all packaging items that have more
than 90% weight in steel. Under this
percentage, the Other Non-Recoverable
scale price shall apply.
004 The Aluminum fee
applies to all packaging items that have more
than 50% weight in aluminum of a minimum
thickness of 50 microns. Under this
percentage, the Other Non-Recoverable
scale price shall apply.
005 The PET fee
only applies to PET bottles, to their caps and
to their shoulders. Any PET packaging item
other than bottles or flasks, as well as their
caps are being applied the Other
Recoverable scale price.

006 The PVC fee
only applies to PVC bottles, to their caps and
to their shoulders. Any PVC packaging item
other than bottles or flasks, as well as their
caps are being applied the Other
Recoverable scale price.
007 The HDPE fee
only applies to HDPE bottles and their caps.
Any HDPE packaging item other than bottles
or flasks, as well as their caps are being
applied the Other Recoverable scale price.
008 The Beverage Carton fee
applies to any laminated packaging – with or
without seal – made of cardboard/plastic or
cardboard/aluminum/plastic, used to pack
liquids – mainly milk, milk-based beverages
and fruit juices or fabric softeners and
detergents (refill). Aluminum and/or plastics
must represent more than 15% of the weight
of the packaging item.
009 The Other Recoverable fee
applies to all packaging elements that are
not covered by the previous prices but are
made of materials considered as
recoverable (codes: 201, 202, 203, 302, 401,
402, 403, 404, 405, 502, 504, 505, 510, 601,
and 602).
Secondary and Tertiary Packaging
102 *The fee for commercial
Paper/Cardboard packaging
applies to secondary and tertiary packaging
– i.e. bundling and transport packaging –
made of cardboard and/or paper. These are
mainly cardboard boxes and cardboard
wedging.
109 *The fee for commercial Other Materials
packaging
applies to secondary and tertiary packaging
– i.e. bundling and transport packaging –
made of plastic and other materials. These
are mainly plastic films and trays,
polystyrene wedging elements, etc.
* These packaging materials must be
declared but they will only be invoiced to you
retroactively to January 1 st 2002 based on
the specific fee applicable to bundling and
transport packaging (Code 102 –
commercial Paper/Cardboard, Code109 –
commercial Other Materials like plastic films,
etc.) The calculation takes into account the
specific cost inherent to the collecting,
sorting and recycling of these packaging
flows.
010 The Other Non-Recoverable fee
applies to all packaging elements and/or
materials that do not fulfill the conditions for
the application of the aforementioned fees.
