Advanced Optics by Science
uvex lens technology
Through “ADVANCED OPTICS BY SCIENCE”, uvex works with leading
scientists to initiate independent research projects.
People often complain about the higher order of aberration in
safety eyewear, citing difficulties in seeing clearly, such as:
• Driving in twilight or at night
• Reduction of contrast sensitivity
• Traffic light or head lights in twilight appear distorted or with halo
and coloured rings
• Occurrence of double or ghost-images
• Defocus
• Diffuse stray and/or scattered light
• Starburst – pattern
Research conducted by Prof. Michelson and Prof. Langenbucher
of the Friedrich-Alexander University resulted in the creation of
a new optical class for safety eyewear with wave-front optimized
lens technology:
All uvex lenses provide excellent mechanical protection and absorb 100% of UV rays. uvex safety eyewear complies
with AS/NZS 1337 (“Occupational eye protectors for industrial applications”) and also with the new AS/NZS 1337.1
(“Eye and face protectors for occupational applications”), which will be published in 2010.
