2 w w w. s t d o m i n i c . n e t Election of a Parish Trustee (Third Notice) The Charter of St. Dominic Catholic Parish states that our congregation will have two trustees as officers of the parish to assist in attending to its affairs. Jerry Buting’s current two-year term will be expiring at the end of May. As Pastor, I am asked to present a qualified candidate to the parish. Grateful for all the help that Michael Ricci and Jerry have been in assisting me in my ministry as your Pastor and with his permission, I would like to nominate Jerry Buting for another two-year term of service. Jerry served as an active participant on the Parish Council for three years, serving as the Council Chairperson during the 2005/06 fiscal year. In many ways, Jerry has demonstrated his love for his Catholic faith, his love for St. Dominic Catholic Parish and his willingness to work hard to help make our parish a vibrant community of faith, now and in the future. Jerry is married to Kathy and they have two children, Stephen and Grace. The parish charter also allows any practicing Catholic member of the parish, at least 25 years old, to place his/her name in nomination, in writing, accompanied by signatures of at least 10 adult practicing parish members. Nominations need to be received in the Parish Center by Wednesday, May 15, 2013. Reith Happy Spring, Seniors! Anyone beyond the age of 55 is welcome to attend our monthly meetings and become a member of this most enjoyable group. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 14, beginning with Mass at 10:30 am, celebrated by Fr. Brad. You can mark your calendar, our meetings are always on the second Tuesday of the month. A brief meeting and lunch, catered by Maxims will follow Mass. One of our favorite speakers, Jessica Micha, will present “Hellen Keller” to us. Prospective members and guests may call Valerie Cherek at 262.523.0748 for reservations. Please join us this month. Try it—you’ll like it! New Towels and Pillows Are Desperately Needed! The Women’s Center of Waukesha, a domestic violence shelter, provides wonderful resources to women and families in our community fleeing domestic violence. They are desperately low on pillows, washcloths and towels. For regulation purposes, they must be NEW. Can you help us? Please drop off donations in the marked containers in both narthexes throughout the month of May. Thank you for your generosity! A Message From Our Pastor This week, Father Brad and I will be joining brother priests and our Bishops for our annual Spring Assembly of Priests, which begins on Monday at noon and concludes Wednesday at noon. This year will be the 29th assembly and is entitled “In Christ There is No East or West: Embracing our Diversity and the Social Message of Jesus”. As part of the activities of this year's assembly, we will also spend time praying and worshipping our Lord; we will honor the jubilarians , as well as, newly retired priests; we will offer a special welcome to those who will be newly ordained priests and brothers who will serve our Archdiocese as of May 18th , and then, there will be some time just to relax and enjoy the company of one another and discuss the new assignments for priests moving this spring. As diocesan priests, we need these few days to celebrate the joy of ordained ministry and to recommit ourselves to do our best to be good and faithful priests. w w w. s t d o m i n i c . n e t 3 Mother’s Day Roses Fresh, long-stemmed red roses will be on sale for Mother’s Day, after all Masses on Mother’s Day Weekend, May 11 & 12. Members of our parish will be selling the roses for $2 each, to benefit the pro-life programs of Wisconsin Right to Life – Milwaukee Chapter. Please honor your own mother by purchasing a rose, and help the most helpless members of our society. St. Dominic Parish Endowment Fund The Board of Directors of the Parish Endowment Fund reports on the progress of the growth of the Fund to our parish community on an annual basis. The primary goal of the Endowment Fund is for the furtherance of Catholic education and formation, including both the parish day school and lifelong faith formation programs. The fund requires that the principal amount of any gift remains intact. Only earnings generated from the principal are used to support the mission of the Fund. Over the past few years, $18,900 has been transferred out of the Fund to allow for the use of tuition assistance grants for the day school and formation programs. As of the end of the 2012 calendar year, the Fund balance totaled $361,962. Over the past ten years, the Fund has grown from $164,543 to the current balance, through returns on investments and generous donations. Contributions of all amounts are appreciated, with donors of $1,000 or more given in a year, being recognized on a plaque in the north narthex of church. At the annual meeting, the following were elected to the Board: President, Father David Reith Vice President, Jerry Buting Secretary, Michael Ricci Treasurer, Kathy Hoffman Director at Large, Pat Mattern Director at Large, Ann Rieger Tax deductible gifts of cash, stocks, bonds or mutual funds can be made directly to the St. Dominic Parish Endowment Fund at any time. Please remember the Endowment Fund when making charitable donations and preparing your estate planning documents. The Endowment Fund can also be named as a designee in planning for funeral memorials. We Are Looking For New Members Are you searching for ways to be of service to your community? Would you like to meet and work together with other Catholic men from St. Dominic, St. John Vianney and St. Luke? Please consider the Knights of Columbus. If you’d like to be a part of an international organization of 1.8 million Catholic men whose principal work involves helping others in need, we'd like to meet you and invite you to join us. Lost & Found Are you perhaps missing a pair of sunglasses, a jacket, a rosary or a cane? Various items that have been found in Church, the Marcy Center or the Parish Center over the past several months have been placed on a table in the North Narthex of Church. Items not claimed by Sunday, May 19, will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul. Rosary For Life Along with members of our Respect Life Committee, please join us in the Chapel at 7:00 pm, on the following dates, to pray the Rosary, petitioning for the sanctity of all life: *May 7 *June 4 Don’t know the Rosary well?
