Clinical trials have been organized with a committee charged<br />
with overseeing the accumulating data since the 1960’s, the NIH<br />
Coronary Drug Project being one of the first such trials. With<br />
the recent development of guidelines <strong>for</strong> such committees by<br />
the European CHMP, the US FDA, the WHO, and others, use of<br />
DMCs in a variety of trials has expanded. The responsibilities and<br />
composition of a DMC, as well as numerous practical problems, will<br />
