*Windows 2000 Professional or Server requires more memory and hard disk space than Windows NT, which should be taken into consideration when specifying minimum hardware
requirements. C•CURE 800 servers to be connected to C•CURE Central have additional requirements. See page 36 for details.
With today’s pace of technology, Software House must continue to dedicate resources to meeting today’s requirements, and
the future needs of the worldwide market. As a robust security application, C•CURE 800 leverages the important features
that can only be found with Windows NT or Windows 2000. Therefore, Windows 95 is no longer supported with C•CURE
800/8000 v8.0. We will continue to support MS Windows NT Workstation and MS Windows 2000 Professional as the primary
client only platforms.
C•Cure 800/8000 Redundant Systems
C•CURE 800
C•CURE 800 can optionally be configured to support a highavailability
clustering solution for Windows 2000 and their
applications. This ‘redundant’ solution is achieved by enabling
two fully functioning Windows 2000 servers to act as hot
spares for each other in the event of a server failure. Should a
server fail, applications/services, data and users form the failed
server are all migrated to the mirrored server.
A redundant system requires a considerable amount of disk
space, memory and RAM. Significantly more complex than
simply ‘doubling’ the standard system, the redundant system
is an extremely high-end system with the following
specifications
1) Since the C•CURE Vision product is a 3rd party solution, we are limited to delivering only the new features the vendor
offers. With C•CURE ID, we have the flexibility of adding new cutting-edge features including the V8.0 feature of enrolling
biometric credentials through C•CURE ID.
2) C•CURE ID eliminates the need for any external software licensing.
Special Note regarding Badging Support:
Software House no longer offers the VisionOne and Vision badging options. The migration to the C•CURE ID badging solution was announced in
November 2002 (TAB 2002-34), and again with the release of C•CURE 800 v 8.0 in January 2003.
The C•CURE ID badging solution has been adopted by over 700 end-users since its launch in July 2002. The adoption rate of C•CURE ID confirms the
products functionality and value over Vision or VisionOne (Imageware (ITC) products)-for example, C•CURE ID released in January 2003, with C•CURE
800 v8.0, allows the enrollment of biometric based credentials.
Through the adoption of the C•CURE ID product Software House is able to add additional functionality to badging such as biometric enrollment, USB and
IP camera support without additional cost to the customer.
As of this release, users will be expected to upgrade from either VisionOne or Vision to the C•CURE ID badging solution. The Vision and Vision One
badging solutions will be put into maintenance mode with no futurer releases planned after v8.0.
As of April 2003, the upgrade cost from VisionOne to C•CURE ID in C•CURE 800 v 8.0 will be waived. The upgrade costs will be waived again with
C•CURE 800 v8.1. Upgrading from Vision to C•CURE ID has been no cost since v7.2 of C•CURE 800 released in July 2002.
EXISTING VISION CUSTOMERS: If you are currently a Vision customer using the CCD-2000 camera and are migrating to C•CURE ID, there will be a patch
issued that will enable the camera to work with C•CURE ID that wil be released with C. CURE 800 v8.1.1. For Curent Vision owners, additional C•CURE
Vision licenses are available only with the following versions of C•CURE 800/8000:
* English v7.2 and 8.0 * Japanese: v6.0
* French, German, Spanish: 7.04, and 5.14 * Simplified Chinese: v8.06
* Check: v 7.05 * Traditional: v8.07
iSTAR TM Intelligent Network Controller
(Up to 16 doors per controller)
C•CURE 800
iSTAR is an Ethernet-ready embedded control panel for
enterprise-wide security management. iSTAR operates with
Software House’s RM Reader Services as well as industry
standard Wiegand readers. Intended for use by both
corporate security and information technology managers,
the iSTAR controller represents a new way to organise and
deploy security management solutions by seamlessly
integrating with an existing network infrastructure.
Designed with the network in mind, the iSTAR controller
enables integration of various event management
applications into one single embedded controller.
At the heart of iSTAR is the General Controller Module
(GCM). The GCM integrates Microsoft’s Windows® CE
operating system, Motorola’s Power PC TM processor,
network and communication ports, expandable memory and
a PC Card type III slot. The GCM also supports up to two
Access Control Modules (ACM) for versatile reader system
integration. ase event-directed actions can be downloaded
to the controller from the C•CURE 800/8000 database and
journal host. Communications among multiple iSTARS can
point-to-point via TCP/IP over Ethernet. Remote dial-up is
also an option as a secondary back-up communications
path. The advantaged access control networking allows
ISTAR controllers to efficiently communicate directly to one
another without host polling or intervention.
Note: C•CURE 800/8000 v.5.2 or higher and complete training is required; all dealers
must complete training on iSTAR system prior to purchasing.
Ethernet Ready- Direct Ethernet connection with each
iSTAR retaining a unique IP address. ISTAR can be
deployed in clusters. A cluster can incorporate multiple
panels employed over a WAN, allowing the cluster to
include controllers in geographically disparate locations.
Embedded Operating System. - Microsoft Windows CE
and Motorola Power PC processor broaden application
support and enhance speed.
Seamless Integration - DHCP allows for automatically
obtaining IP addresses: the C•CURE 800/8000 host networks
for initial database set-up, managing peripheral
hardwdare, generating activity reports, and managing
multi-cluster events.
Wide Range of Alarm Monitoring - Supports 2 ACMs,
each providing 16 supervised inputs and 8 relay outputs
(readers); i/8 and R/8 allow each additional input and output
modules.
Advanced Clustering for Unmatched Event Control and
monitoring - Distributed management is supported
through communications within a cluster.
Database Backup on Power Failure - Eliminates the need
to re-download entire database after power loss.
Anti-Passback within A Cluster - stops or restricts access
of personnel attempting to utilise the same security
badge.
Password Protected Web Based Diagnostics - Remote
diagnostics utilising any networked computer, Web
browser, and known iSTAR IP address.
Expandable On-Board memory - On board memory
options supporting expanded databases/events and
future add-on functionality. 32Mb and 64Mb SIMM field
upgradeable configurations available.
Secure Communications - Industry tested encryption and
multi-key authentication for enhanced security.
System for the Future - Easily upgradeable flash ROM
with future releases and iSTAR specific extended applications
such as enhanced Intrusion Zones and Keyboard
Commands.
Worldwide Compliance - FCC, CE, C-TCK, UL 294 and UL
1076.
apc®/L Advanced Processing Controller
The apC/L is an intelligent access control and alarm monitoring control panel which serves as a basic building block for all of
the C•CURE 800 security management systems. It is a two-door version panel making it an economical solution for parking
garages, small office buildings, retail outlets and apartment complexes, or for remote site monitoring. Like the apC/8X, the
apC/L has many innovative design features which make it more reliable, easier to service, and less expensive to own than
other intelligent field panels.
C•CURE 800
The CMOS Motorola 68306 16-bit processor gives the apC/L maximum flexibility in card population and in utilising its
numerous firmware features. It is available with 512KB static RAM that consumes minimal power for data storage, allowing up
to 80 hours of on-board memory preservation. It supports optical input and output modules that can be added to provide more
flexibility for a variety of access control, alarm monitoring, and integrated security applications.
Multiple card reader technologies and card formats can be used on the same apC/L. This makes it ideal for single and
multiple tenant applications and for retrofitting existing systems. In addition, the bus architecture reduces wiring requirements
and overall installation costs.
The apC/L offers advanced technology, flexibility, and low ownership cost.
Features
• Fast Stand-alone processing
• 255 time commands for automatic input, output, and reader mode control
• Support for magnetic tape,Wiegand, and proximity card technologies
• Card, keypad, or car and keypad access support
• Reader-by-reader support for variable card formats, site codes, company codes, and card
technologies
• Class A, 2-wire supervised input capability with optional input modules FLASH memory
• Internal activation and expiration dates for cardholders
• Real time full-year clock and calendar
• Dynamic memory allocation between card and events storage
• Communications between host and apC/L through network connection (via comor network ports) or
dial-up mode
• Up to 80 hours on board memory retention in case of power failure
• Battery backup option
apC ® /L Memory
The apC/L event storage capacity is automatically adjusted according to the memory required for storing cardholder
information. Increasing the number of cardholder records stored decreases the number of events (transactions) that can be
held.
Adding optional features may reduce the number of cardholder records and event storage space as the record size increases.
Verid Biometric Reader
Features
C•CURE 800
• Easy Installation, no change to system software
• Fingerprint verification in less than 1 second
• Multiple finger enrollment for some or all users
• Administrator selectable security levels. Option of
individual settings
• Accepts standard format Proximity readers
• Input and output data signals identical on finger match
• Easy to follow LED and user-definable LCD instructions
• Users’ template held Verid’s internal database
• RS485 Network for automatic updates of internal database
• Automatic configuration and database synchronisation of
new units added to a network
The Verid Fingerprint Reader provides Access Control systems with
instant improved security. Installed between existing Mag Stripe +
proximity readers and the door controller. Verid confirms the presence
of the correct person. No changes are needed to the cards, readers or
Access Control system software. The complete verification process and
database are all held within the single wall mounting housing which
contains fixing terminals for the data cables. Two versions of the reader
are available, a verification only unit and an enrollment unit.
Number Of Users
Each Verid unit can store templates on up to 5000 users. Each of the
5000 users can have either one or two fingers registered.
Security Levels - Verid
Each Verid unit can be set into one of 7 security levels. “Levels 1 to 5
(strictest)” - check the fingerprint to differing degrees of accuracy
Additionally, Verid can be set to “PIN Only” (ie no fingerprint checking)
and “Any Fingerprint” (ie the user places a finger on the unit which is
then apparently checked, but will always pass).
Security Levels - User
During the enrollment of each user (and Super user), a security level
can be assigned to that user. The levels that can be assigned to that
user are:
. “Global Setting” - The user will adopt the security setting of the Verid
unit
. “Levels 1 to 5 (Strictest)” - Check the fingerprint to differing degrees
of accuracy
. “Any Fingerprint” - and “PIN Only” can also be assigned to the user
RS485 Network Functions
If a network of Verid units is set up, the following tasks will take place
automatically - normally without any P.C. or user intervention:
. Any users added, deleted or updated will immediately be broadcast
to all other Verid units on the network
. Any new units added to the network will adopt the configuration
(e.g. PIN device and messages) of the other units on the network
. Network address information will be resolved by the Verid units on
the network to avoid duplicate network IDs
Template Management
Once installed, the dedicated RS 485 network will automatically
transfer information on newly enrolled, deleted or updated templates.
Adding new units into the network is also made easy with all new units
automatically adopting the configuration of the other units on the
network. The network architecture is a linear twisted pair, terminated
with 120 Ohm resistors, with no spurs.
Configuration
Verid is supplied in a standard configuration suitable for 26 bit format
Wiegand. These settings can be altered by sending commands via the
RS232 port. The detailed command set is contained in the full Verid
Manual. Alternatively, the configuration can be set using the ‘Verid
Manager’ P.C. software kit., available from TSSI. (Requires a P.C.
running Windows 95 or later).
Technical Specification
Dimensions: 160H x 165W x 60D mm
Power:
10 - 14Vd.c., Max. 500mA
A separate/ancillary power supply will be required for locks etc.
A User’s individual security level will override the global level set
on the Verid unit being used.
Enrollment Unit. 1 enrollment unit is needed or
each installation, in addition to the LEDs,
enrollment units have an integral LCD display
and control keys. These units enable new users
to be enrolled onto the system. The enrollment
unit performs all the functions of the verification
unit with the added capability of enrolling,
updating and deleting users from its internal
database. This information can then be
extracted via the RS232 port and transferred to
there Verid verification or enrollment units.
Automatic transfer of templates is available via
the integral RS485 network connection.
636.002.203
Verification Unit. Uses LEDs only to guide the
user through the verification process. The Verid
verification unit accepts a PIN from a PIN entry
device. A comparison is then made between
the template from the live finger and the
original template associated with the PIN.
Templates can be stored in Verid or on Track 3
of a magnetic card. If the templates match,
Verid outputs the PIN data. PINs and templates
are loaded via the integral RS232 and RS485
ports.
636.002.204
Verid Manager Software. Windows 95
management software for configuration and
back up of the Verid readers. There is a 3.5 mm
jack connector on the underside of the unit that
provides RS232 communications. Verid
Manager, from TSSI, offers a variety of template
management options including capturing or
writing the complete database, capturing or
writing individual records and storing records in
a PC for back up or transfer to other units.
More details are available in the document
The customer must supply a design layout which
meets their requirements, together with any
‘corporate’ design restrictions and requirements.
The bureau will then produce a paper copy of the
layout design and/or a sample card. The
customer must then sign and return a design
approval document prior to the order being
completed.
The stock code numbers covering the card
layouts available can be applied to either a plain
white unencoded mag stripe card (636.001.802)
or the HID Duoprox II (662.001.904). These can
be printed on the front and/or rear face and have
the mag stripe encoded. All of the new part
numbers include the cost of the card. This is not
usually part of a proposal from outside suppliers.
We estimate that out cost will be approximately
20% lower than the suppliers used at present.
Locks
C•CURE 800
This section of the Tyco Safety Products Access Control Catalogue covers the locks and ancillary items required for most installations. These are by no
means an exhaustive list of the products available, but a selection of the most commonly required parts. More complex designs or requirements may
require direct input from our specialist suppliers. Remember, locks used for access control are not usually designed to provide the degree of physical
security against gross attack that may be required for insurance purposes. Consideration must also be given to fire and Health and Safety aspects of any
installation. This includes for means of escape, access to a secure area for emergencies and also providing sufficient headroom for users. As with all
locking systems, the survey must take account of the doors existing fittings and furniture. The door must fit correctly, have adequate hinges and a suitable,
preferably double action, door closer.
637.008.452
Z & L Bracket for inward opening doors. For 261
range Aluminium Magnets. Double Magnets
require two.
These are now the most commonly used
access control lock due to their ease of
installation and tolerance to door deterioration.
These locks are by their design - FAIL SAFE
units. This means that they require the power
from the access system to provide a holding
force. When the power is removed the lock
releases. Should there be a total power failure,
cable damage etc, the lock fails in a released
state.
The locks in this section are face to face style.
They hold by means of a coil in the lock
producing a magnetic field, which attracts an
armature plate, which is fitted to the door. The
holding force is purely due to the magnetic field
which is reliant upon the armature being in
direct alignment with the magnetic coil. The
armature is fitted with a minor tolerance allowing
for distortion etc. It is possible however to attack
the door by "springing" the lock to gain entry -
this is especially likely on large doors. As the
lock requires a face to face fitting it is only
suitable for doors that swing in one direction
only. It is essential that these locks are not
installed on the transom of swing through doors
and used as a doorstop as well as the lock.
Options available include status monitoring -
contacts in the lock detect that the door is
closed. There is also a double monitored unit,
which monitors the door status contact and the
holding force of the lock. This ensures that the
lock is providing the level of holding force
expected. Should someone try to defeat the
lock by applying grease to the face plate(s) or
use a plastic layer to create an air-gap between
lock and armature then an alarm output can be
given.
The installation of these locks is quite simple.
They do however require there to be sufficient
room on the door transom or for brackets to be
fitted. On outward opening doors, head height
is lost and either L brackets or a transom bar
can be used. Be aware of Health & Safety
isseus for minimum door opening height. For
inward opening doors, Z&L brackets are
required.
As magnetic locks have no means of providing
a mechanical override it is normal practice to
supply an emergency break glass box adjacent
to the door for means of escape. It is also good
practice to provide at least one door to each
secure area with a means of overriding the
system for emergency entry. This would
normally be achieved by a secure keyswitch
on the unsecure side of the door. This should
be wired into the system in line with the lock
power. This is of course a security risk so it
must be installed in the correct manner.
Locks and Electric Releases
C•CURE 800
There are a wide variety of locks and electric
releases available for access control. In the main,
there are three options available:
• Surface or flush fitting
• Fail safe or Fail secure
• Monitored or unmonitored.
Surface or flush is simply the method
of installing the lock. This must take account of
the aesthetics, security and type of door and
frame.
Fail-safe is a release that allows access when the
power is removed from the operating coil. Fail
safe locks therefore draw power from the access
system when the door is in its closed state.
Fail secure provides a degree of physical
security when the lock has
the power removed. This could be either in its
normal operation or in a total power failure.
Subject to the lock design. This type
of installation offers a means of mechanical
override for escape from the secure side of the
door - handle or if acceptable paddle turn. and a
mechanical override for entry by key. If this is not
available then breakglass and keyswitch may be
required as for the magnetic lock.
Shear Locks
These are magnetic locks designed for fitting into
the transom or doorframe. The holding force this
time draws up the armature plate allowing a
locating pin to be put in place from the lock to
the armature. This provides a physical
mechanism against the side shear force applied
to the door when trying to overcome the lock.
These locks can be fitted to swing through doors
but the re-alignment of the door(s) is critical.
Breakglass Boxes
C•CURE 800
636.008.052.A
Key Switch
636.008.051.A
These items are wired in series with any fail safe
lock (power required to secure the door) and its
power supply feed and must be connected as
the last item in the circuit before the lock itself.
This means that the lock power can be cut off
to provide a means of escape from the
controlled area. In some circumstances, a
breakglass may be required on the unsecure
side to give access into the secure area for
emergency purposes - lift lobbies etc. The latter
is a security risk and the breakglass and door
should be monitored to generate a door forced
alarm as soon as the glass is broken.
When a door is fitted with access control, using
a lock that does not offer a means of override
from the unsecure side in the event of an
emergency, it is advisable to install a key switch
at one entry point to each secure area. This will
operate in a similar manner to the emergency
break glass detailed above, in that it removes
power from the lock (fail-safe). It is however a
little more secure in that unless it is tampered
with a key is required to operate the override
facility. The door should of course be monitored
This section offers a wide range of devices, which
allow an access-controlled door to be opened in
an authorised manner. Standard methods of
egress mechanical handle etc do not normally
provide a signal to the central control equipment.
A door forced indication would therefore be
generated if monitoring of the access doors were
required. Also if magnetic lock or similar are used,
a safe means of release is required. Listed below
are standard egress buttons, for both low and
high traffic use, contact egress buttons and also
an egress PIR. The last two items offer a "contact"
free load maintenance means of egress. The
egress PIR can be sited and adjusted to provide
a door release signal only in the event a person
moving into the vicinity of the door.
T-Rex Smart Exit Detector
C•CURE 800
The smart exit detector. The T.Rex provides a
complete solution to exit detection and door
surveillance for access control applications.
Outstanding innovations such as X-Y Targeting
TM and DSP implementation make the T.Rex
the fastest and most reliable exit detector on
the market.
X-Y TargetingTM targets a specific area of
detection.
While some exit detectors on the market offer
adjustments of the detection pattern with masking
or horizontal alignment, the T.Rex is the first
detector to offer vertical detection using two
adjustable louvres located in the detection
chamber. The installer “trims” the detection area
by adjusting these louvres from 90° down to a
minute 5°. Horizontal adjustment is provided by
rotation of the lens.
Added security: These two adjustments allow the
installer to mount the detector so that the
detection area will not “hit” the floor along the
doorjamb. This exclusive feature defeats attempts
to circumvent door supervision by sliding objects
underneath the door. Such objects would be
detected by sensors mounted in a traditional way.
DSP (Digital Signal Processing) prevents “Door
Forced Open” alarms. Kantech’s T.Rex utilises
infrared detection coupled with DSP sampling
specifically designed for access control
applications. There is a substantial operational
difference between a common infrared intrusion
motion detector and the T.Rex. An intrusion
detector operates at low sensitivity levels and is
looking for the positive presence of a human. An
exit detector must detect the extremely fast
movements of a hand (the target) about to push
the door or turn the door handle. Contrary to
intrusion applications, a failure to detect in an exit
application will actually cause a “Door Forced
Open” alarm.
OBJECTIVES
Carry out a comprehensive risk assessment o your premises and
decide the level of security you require before planning your
Access Control system. Take into account any special features
you require.
Your Access Control system is often the first impression made on
visitors to your premises. Consider environmental aspects of the
aesthetics of your building.
Examine the layout of your system. Do your entry and exit procedures
allow legitimate users to pass without undue effort and
delay?
Consider the physical aspects. Can PIN pads, card and token
readers be accessed without difficulty? Can displays be readily
observed?
Are your staff fully aware of the role and operation of your Access
Control System? Your Installer should provide adequate system
training.
The integrity of your Access control system must be preserved.
Are you fully conversant with correct system management and
administration procedures? Requires well defined written
procedures for your installers.
Are you aware of the legal implications concerning personal data
held on your database?
Your installer should supply all relevant system documentation e.g.
log books and service schedules.
Are you aware of the access required on system breakdown?
Do you have a satisfactory system maintenance agreement in
place.
Your Access Control system may supplement other security
measures. Consider system compatibility.
Are you and your company compliant with:
The Disabilities Act (1996)
The Data Protection Act (1998)
The Human Rights Act (1998)
Are your desired security objectives being satisfied? If necessary,
carryout a further risk assessment and address any shortcomings.
Glossary of Terms
Access Group Permission programmed into the access control system to
allow a cardholder to enter certain doors at specified times.
Active Card An access control proximity card, which is powered by a battery
within the tag or keyfob. Be aware that batteries have a limited life span
and in most cases cannot be replaced - hence the customer will need to
budget for replacement within the life expectancy of the system.
Anti-Pass Back (APB) is a facility where card readers are programmed as
IN or OUT of a controlled area. Cardholders can enter and area BUT the
card cannot be used at any other IN reader until the card is “seen” by the
system to leave the area. This stops duplicate use of a card at controlled
points.
Asset Tagging Usually managed by active tags and long range
readers/door loops. Asset tagging provides tags, which are suitable for
fixing to items such as laptops, projectors etc. Tags can be static (for fixed
location items - works of art) or portable. Some have additional features
such as tamper, so that the tag cannot be removed whist within the secure
area before the item is taken off site.
Barcode Low cost and low security means of providing access control.
Commonly seen in libraries,. Two methods of barcode are available - open
(as seen in library books) which can be copied and reproduced giving no
security at all and Obscure, which has a panel over the barcode stopping
copying.
Biometric Reader Uses a part of the human body to identify the user -
fingerprint retina scanner etc. Most give a Wiegand output and can be
integrated with our systems subject to test.
Card Number
This is the internal encoded number - as read by the system
Cashless vending A third party supplied system that allows the employee
to use their access control card to purchase lunch, coffee etc. Smart cards
are now being promoted for this purpose. Older systems use track 3 of the
magstripe - only high output mag-stripe tape is accepted by some suppliers
of cashless vending i.e. Girovend.
Clock & Data A card format usually associated with magstripe. This can
however be reproduced by proximity and other reader types.
Coercivity This is the term for the resilience of a magstripe. Standard
access control cards are Hi Co whist Bankcards are usually Lo Co.
Domain software Excelsior’s software package allowing up to 8 networks
to be controlled from one PC. The main advantage of using Domain would
be the use of names for card holders, doors, readers, time zones etc AND
the archiving of al transactions for historical and audit reporting of who went
where and when etc.
Dongle Provided with SGA & Domain software to stop software from being
duplicated for use on other sites.
Door Forced this is an alarm generated by the access system when the
door is opened by unauthorised means break glass box, door override
switch or forced entry. Door must be fitted with a monitor contact.
Door Held Open Alarm generated when an access controlled door is
wedged in the open position after being opened by authorised means. Door
must be fitted with a door contact. Some systems offer local alarm feature
prior to a full alarm at a central location.
Door Loop (reader) This is a cable placed around the doorframe, within the
floor or ceiling to create a larger aerial for a proximity reader. Used for
Hands free access and/or asset tagging.
doors hinged edge to transfer power and monitoring to a lock or electric
release.
Duress Code/PIN By changing the PIN code used by the authorised person
to enter the site. An alarm may be generated at a central location identifying
that the user has gained access whilst under duress. Access at the
door is gained without any local alarm being generated.
Ethernet The most popular standard for networking information technology
equipment. Devices are addressed using TCP/IP protocol.
ECC Ethernet Comms Convertor. Used by SGA to connect a network of
controllers to the central PC via either a dedicated LAN or customers
LAN/WAN. The ECC provides the RS422 protocol required for the SGA
comms line.
Excelsior Tyco manufactured access control system. Can be managed by
either hand held programmer or Domain software. Up to 8,000 cardholders
and from 1 to 1,008 readers. Controllers can be connected by hard-wired
connection, fibre, LAN/WAN or dial-up/dedicated telephone line.
Fail-Safe Term for a lock that requires power to lock - power fail releases
the door. Not suitable for perimeter doors. Ideal for fire exit routes as a fire
alarm input and breakglass box can release the door to meet fire officers
requirements. All face to face mag locks are fail safe. Not suitable for very
secure areas.
Fail-Secure Term for a lock that requires power to operate and allow the
door to be opened. Motor locks and solenoid bolts are typical examples.
Mechanical override is required for means of escape to meet the fire officer’s
requirements.
Graphics Available on SGA. Customers site drawing are either produced
or taken from CAD file. SGA uses bitmap files for Graphic maps - which can
be site photos etc. Icons can then be added for monitored/controlled points,
which are animated to show their status.
Hall Effect Monitoring built in to some magnetic locks to ensure that the
holding force is up to the specified levels. Provides monitoring to overcome
the typical methods of reducing holding force - grease, film etc - making
forced entry much easier.
Hands Free The use of long range readers/Door loops with active tags to
monitor the movement of personnel and assets.
Hi Co Type of magnetic stripe tape - see Coercivity
IAC Intelligent Access Controller for SGA. Supports two card readers (with
or without keypads) and all necessary inputs/outputs for monitoring etc.
Auxiliary inputs and outputs for local devices are also provided. The controller
is boxed with power supply and tamper feature as standard.
Controller will support 12,000 or 44,000 cardholders.
IOC Input Output controller for SGA. Provides supervised input monitoring
and clean contact outputs for local alarm management of non-access control
devices.
ioPass Tyco manufactured standalone proximity access control system.
Supports up to 5,000 card users. Full compatibility with ioProx readers.
ioProx Tyco manufactured range of proximity cards and readers. Can be
used with SGA and with correct firmware Excelsior. Readers are formatted
and the correct items must be ordered. Unique format for ADT/Tyco businesses.
Door Loop (for lock) Flexible conduit either surface or concealed at the
Excelsior using Belden 9207). More tolerant to noise than RS422.
RTE Request to Exit. Push button or PIR device that releases the door.
SGA Siteguard Access. Tyco manufactured PC based access control system,
which supports up to 100,000 card holders and 3,000 + readers. The
system can support multiple reader technologies on one system via hard
wired networks, LAN/Wan or dedicated or dial-up telephone lines. Systems
can have multiple PC connections for system management.
Serial port RS232 port usually found on a PC - required for each hard
wired comms lines for SGA & Excelsior.
Shear lock A magnetic lock that is fitted into the transom of the door
enabling the door to swing through. Therefore door alignment on closing is
critical. When locked the lock has shear pins, which fit into that armature to
increase the holding force.
Site Code Part of the card number which can be specific to that site or
customer. Used by Excelsior it is important that site codes are recorded so
that additional cards are supplied with the correct code.
Smart Card ISO style card, which contains a microprocessor and memory.
Card can be used to store data for access control and third party applications
- cashless vending etc.
Suppression Required for mains, telephone lines and data runs that are
between buildings.
T&A Time & Attendance. Record employees’ on/off site time and can link
to payroll systems. Should be kept separate from the access control system
- card compatibility only is the best solution.
TCP/IP Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. A layered set of
protocols that allows sharing of applications among PC, workstations and
network controllers (ECC).
PIN Personal Identification Number. Used with keypads - should be considered
for use in addition to any reader technology at the perimeter of a site
to reduced the risk of lost cards being found and used by unauthorised person(s).
PIR Passive Infra Red. A technology, which uses the bodies, heat to
detect presence and then generate a signal. Can be used for hands free
egress control - t.REX. Note any heat sources can detected by a PIR.
Protocol Convertor A device used to change data formats - from a PCs
serial port (RS232) to that required by the controller communications port
(RS422/485 for SAG & RS485 for Excelsior).
Proximity
Release
Rim Release
Yale 88).
Card/reader technology which is contactless.
Electrically operated keep for either a mortice or latch lock.
Surface mounted door release used with rim locks (like the
RLC Remote Line Controller. Used with SGA to manage a remote site with
up to 8 IACs. The central PC with require a modem and dedicated dial up to
telephone line for communication.
RS232 Industries most standard form of serial interface. All PC serial ports
transmit RS232. When using fibre drivers - transmit RS232 and then convert
at the remote location. Without drivers, RS232 has a very short transmission
distance - approx. 15m.
RS422 Standard comms protocol for SGA. Requires two pairs - transmit &
receive. This format extend the communications line up to approx. 1,200m.
Tag A proximity access control device - usually of the “clamshell” type - not
a card or keyfog.
Tailgating Entering the secure area by following an authorised user through
a door.
Timezone A period of time whcih can be given to a cardholder to grant
access of assigned to other functions on the access control system
T Modem Device used with Excelsior to extend RS232 comms lines and
regenerate RS 485 on a standard controller line.
Track 2 Standard magstripe cards have three tracks - 1,2, & 3. Track 2 is
the most commonly track used for access control. Track 3 is the approved
track for “read/write” - used for cashless vending etc.
t.REX Egress PIR specifically designed for access control. The PIR can be
directed to release the door only when a specific area (door handle or push
plate) is touched.
Watermark Special mag stripe tape produced by Thorn Secure Science.
Used by the MoD & BT. Two versions are generally used, 10 character and 9
character LRC. Requires special firmware for Excelsior. Watermark (track 0)
mag stripe readers.
Wiegand A high security card and reader technology using allow wires
twisted and set into a card insert. These produce a binary number. Wiegand
is also a format generally used by proximity readers - 26 bit being the industry
standard. Suppliers generally have their own securie formats available.
