Fresh off their 6 th unprecedented Illinois High School Associati<strong>on</strong> (IHSA)<br />
Wheelchair Basketball State title, the <str<strong>on</strong>g>Windy</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>City</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Warriors</str<strong>on</strong>g> wrap up the seas<strong>on</strong><br />
ranked 8 th out of 32 teams competing at the nati<strong>on</strong>al tournament.<br />
Playing at the Nati<strong>on</strong>al Wheelchair Basketball Associati<strong>on</strong> (NWBA) Champi<strong>on</strong>ship<br />
Tournament in Denver April 7-10 th , the team got the opportunity to go up against some<br />
str<strong>on</strong>g competiti<strong>on</strong>. “It was a good tournament. Not what we expected but we did play<br />
very well,” says Kevin Hosea, coach and WDSRA program supervisor. “Every<strong>on</strong>e played<br />
well and we really improved from 13 th place last year.”<br />
The <str<strong>on</strong>g>Warriors</str<strong>on</strong>g> started with a win against the L<strong>on</strong>g Island Lightening. They went <strong>on</strong> to lose<br />
games against the Nebraska Red Dawgs (the eventual 1 st place team), Utah Jr. Wheeling<br />
Jazz (by 1 point), and the Rancho Renegades (<strong>on</strong> a buzzer beater at the end of OT by 1<br />
point).<br />
According to Hosea, “we have the same core group coming back next year, including all<br />
of our starters. This is a great way to end the seas<strong>on</strong> and go into the next seas<strong>on</strong>!”<br />
Sp<strong>on</strong>sored by <strong>Western</strong> <strong>DuPage</strong> <strong>Special</strong> Recreati<strong>on</strong> Associati<strong>on</strong> (WDSRA), the <str<strong>on</strong>g>Windy</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>City</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Warriors</str<strong>on</strong>g> wheelchair basketball team dominated the IHSA tournament. The<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>Warriors</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong>ce again earn the right to be called the premier wheelchair basketball team in<br />
the state.<br />
