Exclusive offering COMMISSIONED PRIVATE PORTRAIT
harry benson
Scottish-born photographer Harry
Benson arrived in America with the
Beatles in 1964. One could say his
entire career has been intertwined
with history-making individuals and
events. In addition to photographing
every U.S. president from Eisenhower
to Obama, he was just feet away
from Bobby Kennedy the night he
was assassinated; in the room with
Richard Nixon when he resigned;
next to Coretta Scott King at her
husband’s funeral; in Berlin when the
Wall went up and when it fell; and in
New Orleans during the aftermath of
Hurricane Katrina.
Ali Hits George, Miami, 1964
live auction
Benson was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2009. Other awards
include the American Photo Magazine Award for Achievement in Photography, the Lucie Award
for Lifetime Achievement in Portrait Photography, the Scottish Press Photographers Association’s
Lifetime Achievement Award and the Leica Medal of Excellence (twice).
Under contract to Life magazine from 1970–2000, he currently works with Vanity Fair and Newsweek
among other publications. Benson’s work has been the subject of 40 gallery solo exhibitions, and 14
books of his photographs have been published, including his latest, New York New York.
