Tim Wade<br />

Vice President, <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Affairs</strong><br />

Tim is in his 34 th year at <strong>Interlochen</strong>, beginning in 1979 as a guidance<br />

counselor <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Academy. He has also served as director of <strong>the</strong> counselorin-training<br />

program <strong>for</strong> Camp, assistant director of <strong>Interlochen</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> Academy,<br />

dean of student services, dean of education, and vice president <strong>for</strong> education<br />

programs/student services. He is a graduate of Western Michigan University<br />

(B.A. in education, and M.A. in counseling and personnel). He has been a<br />

licensed professional counselor since 1993. Tim is responsible <strong>for</strong> student<br />

services, including residence life, counseling and psychological services,<br />

student discipline, recreation and physical education, health and wellness.<br />

Tim serves on <strong>the</strong> board of directors <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> Schools Network and <strong>the</strong><br />

Traverse City Kiwanis Club. He is married to Vicki, an elementary educator,<br />

and <strong>the</strong>y are <strong>the</strong> parents of two daughters, both educators and alumnae of<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> Academy and <strong>Arts</strong> Camp.


Jennifer Wesling<br />

Dean of <strong>Student</strong>s<br />

Jennifer first came to <strong>Interlochen</strong> in <strong>the</strong> summer of 1980 as a Counselor-in-<br />

Training (CIT) and has only missed one summer since. She has a Bachelor<br />

of Science in Elementary and Computer Education from Indiana University,<br />

and a Master of <strong>Arts</strong> in College <strong>Student</strong> Personnel from Bowling Green State<br />

University, Bowling Green, OH. Jennifer has served <strong>Interlochen</strong> year around<br />

in a variety of positions including Residence Hall Counselor, Residence Hall<br />

Manager, Guidance Counselor, and Director of Administrative Services. She<br />

has served as <strong>the</strong> Dean of <strong>Student</strong>s since 1999.<br />

Jennifer's camp experience began at <strong>the</strong> age of 8 at day camp in Indiana and<br />

she moved on to sleep-away camp where she learned camp songs and<br />

games that she still sings and teaches o<strong>the</strong>rs. At <strong>Interlochen</strong>, Jennifer has<br />

served as a CIT, cabin counselor, unit leader and assistant director all in<br />

Intermediate Girls. She has also worked as <strong>the</strong> recreation manager, sailing<br />

instructor and staff housing manager.


Lisa Melnyk<br />

Coordinator of Leisure <strong>Arts</strong><br />

Lisa Melnyk began her career at <strong>Interlochen</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> Camp in 1994 as a cabin<br />

counselor. She worked four summers in <strong>the</strong> All State division be<strong>for</strong>e moving<br />

into <strong>the</strong> Recreation Department to work as <strong>the</strong> Waterfront Manager, a position<br />

she held <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> next eleven seasons.<br />

Lisa began working at <strong>Interlochen</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> Academy in 2006. Following various<br />

substitute, temporary, and interim appointments in <strong>the</strong> Education, Health<br />

Services, and Human Resources Departments, she became <strong>the</strong> Coordinator<br />

of Leisure <strong>Arts</strong> in 2008. In her own words, "I'm in charge of fun and good<br />

toys!" This is Lisa's 20th camp summer!!!

Tim Baase<br />

Coordinator of Camp Life<br />

Tim began working in <strong>the</strong> Junior Boys Division of <strong>Interlochen</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> Camp in<br />

2010. He holds a Bachelor of Fine <strong>Arts</strong> in Musical Theatre Per<strong>for</strong>mance from<br />

Central Michigan University. Tim spent <strong>the</strong> last year as a Residence Hall<br />

Counselor in DeRoy at <strong>Interlochen</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> Academy. After a very cold winter, he<br />

is excited to dive back into camp mode.<br />

Though he hated it as a child, Tim discovered <strong>the</strong> power of summer camp<br />

during his first counseling job at <strong>the</strong> age of 15. Since <strong>the</strong>n, he has worked in a<br />

variety of camp settings be<strong>for</strong>e falling in love with <strong>Interlochen</strong>. Tim is an<br />

<strong>Interlochen</strong> history buff and has a large collection of artifacts that he loves to<br />

share with o<strong>the</strong>rs. This summer, he will serve as <strong>the</strong> Coordinator of Camp<br />

Life be<strong>for</strong>e heading to New York City to pursue a per<strong>for</strong>mance career full<br />

time.

Director of Junior Boys


Allie Jannette<br />

Director of Junior Girls<br />

Allie spent her first summer at <strong>Interlochen</strong> as <strong>the</strong> IGL Assistant Director in<br />

2011. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental Music Education<br />

and Psychology from <strong>the</strong> University of Wisconsin--Madison. In addition to<br />

<strong>Interlochen</strong>, Allie has worked at a number of camps including Lu<strong>the</strong>ran<br />

Summer Music Academy and UW-Madison Summer Music Clinic. Although<br />

she had some amazing experiences outside of <strong>Interlochen</strong>, she couldn't stay<br />

away!<br />

Allie is currently finishing her first year of teaching at Clearwater Middle<br />

School in Waconia, MN. She teaches sixth and seventh grade bands as well<br />

as fifth through eighth grade small-group lessons.


Annette Puleo<br />

Director of Intermediate Boys<br />

Annette first came to <strong>Interlochen</strong> in <strong>the</strong> summer of 2011 as Director of<br />

Intermediate Boys Division. She has a Master of <strong>Arts</strong> in Special Education<br />

and a Master of <strong>Arts</strong> in Exercise Science/ Physical Education from Michigan<br />

State University. During <strong>the</strong> school year Annette teaches Earth Science,<br />

Biology, US History, World History and Career classes to 8th - 12th grade<br />

students; in Lansing MI, <strong>for</strong> Ingham Intermediate School District.<br />

Annette's camp experience began as a counselor <strong>for</strong> children ages 5-15 at a<br />

YMCA day camp in Utica NY. Annette has also had <strong>the</strong> pleasure of directing<br />

"Camp Puleo" <strong>for</strong> three years <strong>for</strong> children ages 6 - 12. Be<strong>for</strong>e she came to<br />

<strong>Interlochen</strong> she spent several summers directing "Family Camp" <strong>for</strong><br />

Edgewood United Church.


Allegra Smith<br />

Director of Intermediate Girls Lakeside<br />

Allegra was a counselor, unit leader, and assistant director in Intermediate<br />

Girls from 2005-2009, and returned to Intermediate Girls Lakeside as Director<br />

in 2011 and 2012. She graduated with a Bachelors in Music Per<strong>for</strong>mance<br />

and Education from Ithaca College and a Masters in Clarinet Per<strong>for</strong>mance<br />

from <strong>the</strong> University of Colorado Boulder. She has been a middle school band<br />

teacher in Middletown, NY <strong>for</strong> 3 years.<br />

Allegra's first camp experience was at a Girl Scout day camp. She came to<br />

<strong>Interlochen</strong> as a very homesick just-finished 6th grade camper. After a long<br />

week when she was convinced she wouldn't survive, her camp experience<br />

was turned around by her first Intermediate Band concert and a postcard from<br />

her counselor Jen saying congratulations and that camp only got better after<br />

<strong>the</strong> first week. She <strong>the</strong>n returned to <strong>Interlochen</strong> as a camper <strong>for</strong> a total of 4<br />

Intermediate summers and 1 High School summer- proof that homesickness<br />

is survivable!


Beth Lewis<br />

Director of Intermediate Girls Meadows<br />

Beth has had a wide variety of <strong>Interlochen</strong> experiences over <strong>the</strong> past 30<br />

years. Her first experience was as a High School camper. She returned<br />

during college to spend a summer working in <strong>the</strong> Scholarshop. After a long<br />

hiatus Beth was able to enjoy <strong>Interlochen</strong> again as a member of <strong>the</strong> Music<br />

Faculty in 2005. After transitioning to <strong>the</strong> Camp Life side of <strong>Interlochen</strong>, she<br />

worked as Office Manager <strong>for</strong> Intermediate Boys, Beth is very excited to be<br />

returning as <strong>the</strong> Director of IGM.<br />

Beth has a Master of Music Education degree from Central Michigan<br />

University and has worked as a 6-12 Band Director in Holt, Michigan <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

past 20 years. She also leads <strong>the</strong> percussion studio, directs an ensemble,<br />

and teaches music appreciation courses at Lansing Community College.<br />

Beth's o<strong>the</strong>r camp experience include five years as a Music Director <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Blue Lake Fine <strong>Arts</strong> Camp.


Andy Jensen<br />

Director of High School Boys<br />

This will be Andy's first time at <strong>Interlochen</strong>, but he's excited to spend <strong>the</strong><br />

summer in "<strong>the</strong> land of <strong>the</strong> pines!" Andy has been in numerous education and<br />

camp settings throughout <strong>the</strong> course of his life including counseling roles at<br />

Green Lake Bible Camp and Lu<strong>the</strong>ran Summer Music Academy, as well as<br />

an assistant program director at GLBC.<br />

Andy is finishing his fourth year of teaching, <strong>the</strong> first two were in Ivanhoe,<br />

Minnesota (where he taught 5-12 instrumental music) and <strong>the</strong> past two in<br />

Dodge <strong>Center</strong>, Minnesota where he primarily teaches 8-12 band.<br />

Andy graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and is<br />

working on completing his master's degree in music education from <strong>the</strong><br />

University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.


Michelle Hartwig<br />

Director of High School Girls<br />

Michelle started working at <strong>Interlochen</strong> as a cabin counselor in 2005. She<br />

has a Bachelor of Music Education from Central Michigan University and<br />

plans to begin her Masters in <strong>Arts</strong> Administration at The University of<br />

Michigan - Flint in <strong>the</strong> fall . During <strong>the</strong> school year, she teaches Kindergarten<br />

through Eighth Grade General music in Flint, Michigan. She has also taught<br />

general music and orchestra in Buckeye, Arizona. Michelle served<br />

<strong>Interlochen</strong> year-round as a Residence Hall Counselor <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> 2008-2009<br />

school year.<br />

Michelle's sleep-away camp experience began as a 12-year-old, and she has<br />

been to at at least one camp nearly every summer since <strong>the</strong>n. At <strong>Interlochen</strong>,<br />

Michelle has served as a cabin counselor, unit leader and assistant director<br />

all in High School Girls division. This her second summer as <strong>the</strong> Director of<br />

High School Girls.


Ellen West<br />

Director of Institutes<br />

Ellen West has a B.A.A. in Outdoor and Environmental Recreation from<br />

Central Michigan University. Her interests lie primarily with canoeing,<br />

kayaking, backpacking, and being outside. She began at <strong>Interlochen</strong> as <strong>the</strong><br />

Recreation Manager in <strong>the</strong> summer of 2009 and has since served as <strong>the</strong><br />

Intermediate Girls Meadows director, Manager of Picasso during <strong>the</strong><br />

Academy year, and is now <strong>the</strong> Director of Institutes.<br />

Ellen's grew up in Michigan and her passion <strong>for</strong> working in <strong>the</strong> outdoors<br />

began in elementary school when she first went to summer camp. She went<br />

back <strong>for</strong> 8 years and <strong>the</strong>n began working at different summer camps. After<br />

finishing college, Ellen worked primarily with high school aged at-risk youth.<br />

She was thrilled to find <strong>Interlochen</strong>- a place that combines her appreciation<br />

<strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> arts and her love <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> outdoors.
