As Richard Fenning, Control Risks’
CEO explains, having a joint response
to travel risk management is a key
requirement for international companies
in today’s world. “Companies need a
coordinated travel security program that
supports them end to end”, he says.

response if needed. And they want
solutions that can integrate the medical
and security aspects of business travel”.
The alliance integrates the security
operations of both companies at the

While both International SOS and Control Risks

alliance – a new joint operating unit has been formed

What does the alliance offer which
clients can’t already access through
International SOS or Control Risks?
RF. This alliance gives us a global
network and operational resources that
are second to none. And it puts us in a
very strong position to offer even more
choice and to pioneer new services
over time.
AV. All our clients now benefit from a
larger team and more resources globally.
Together, we can offer more extensive
travel security analysis, expanded
24-hour security assistance services and
a traveler tracking service that combines
the very best of each organization’s
traveler tracking solutions. We also offer
specialist security consulting services.
How is the strategic alliance
structured?
AV. This alliance is comprised of two
components – a sales & marketing
partnership and a joint operating unit.
This unit delivers the security services
for international travelers and expatriates
of both International SOS’ and Control
Risks’ clients. It brings together people,
infrastructure, capabilities and expertise
of the parent companies.
What does this mean for
International SOS clients currently
holding Comprehensive membership?
AV. Clients now get access to services
provided by our combined resources. For
the Comprehensive members, this access
complements International SOS’ existing
global presence. In addition, it also
enhances the travel security component
of the integrated medical, security and
online solutions that we currently offer.
What does this mean for clients
who already buy security services
separately from International SOS
and Control Risks?
AV. The clients continue to have a single
point of delivery for the services they
currently demand. These services now
come with a significantly enhanced
travel security component. And if a
client is interested in other services, their
account manager can arrange for them to
be introduced to the right person either at
International SOS or Control Risks. We
want to make it easy and seamless for
clients to take advantage of the full range
of services on offer.
What will this alliance offer that isn’t
available elsewhere in the market?
RF. No other company can match the
depth of expertise, resources and
geographic reach that we jointly offer.
Is this a prelude to a merger or
creation of a new brand?
AV. No. Each company will continue
to operate independently. This is an
alliance with shared ownership of the
joint operating unit specifically to deliver
services in the travel security sector.
The capabilities within this unit are
being promoted by International SOS
and Control Risks in order to capitalize
on the strengths of the two existing
brands in their respective fields.
A comprehensive

The alliance brings together a team of
professionals whose sole focus is to
protect international travelers and
assignees. As with International SOS’
current services, the cornerstone is the

Our 24/7 Global Information Center and
regionally-based analysis teams ensure
timely reporting on travel security
threats and short-term travel disruption.
This team provides analysis and updates
online and by email to keep travelers
and expatriates informed of risk at
country and city level.
The new travel security information
website for members connects to
International SOS’ medical information
and allows seamless integration with
Control Risks’ political and operational
risk analysis.
24-hour security assistance
A 24/7 security desk is operated through
the Global Security Center in London in
liaison with Regional Security Centers
and International SOS’ alarm centers.
Whether there is a requirement for pretravel
advice, activating local security
support or provision of emergency
assistance this specialist team is
available 365 days a year. In the event
of an emergency, we work with our
clients to execute contingency plans
and, if necessary, evacuate employees
and their families safely.
Travel Security Consulting
Specialist security consultants work
with clients to build and implement a
tailored travel security program to help
them proactively identify and manage
travel risk, for example through
structured risk assessments, crisis
planning, security training programs
and ongoing support to maximize the
effectiveness of their program.
Traveler awareness and tracking
The traveler awareness and tracking
service combines the best of
International SOS’and Control Risks’
existing traveler tracking services to
monitor and locate individuals in the
event of a crisis. With features that assist
our clients to communicate their
corporate travel policy, this product is
an essential risk management tool.

Rashmi Dastidar, Analyst,
Global Information Center,
New Delhi
Rashmi reports on issues
that impact travelers across the Middle
East and Africa and monitors events
in Pakistan, Nigeria and Venezuela.
She prepares country risk reports and
travel risk advisories. Rashmi joined
International SOS after years in academia
where she studied religion, gender and
political conflict. She is fluent in English,
Hindi, Assamese and Bengali.
Ken Walton,
Security Assistance
Manager, Americas Region
Ken joined
International SOS after serving in the
US Army Special Forces for 23 years
where he participated in combat,
humanitarian and civil affairs operations.
He has participated in counter-narcotics
operations across South America and
has designed and delivered emergency
management training courses to foreign
governments.
Clive Grant,
Consultant, Global Security
Center, London
Clive provides 24-hour
security advice to clients. Previously
he gained wide experience of corporate
security and risk management, advising
clients in South America, Africa and
the Balkans. He spent 35 years with
the Royal Marines working in counterterrorism,
counter-piracy and narcotic
operations.
Kymelya Sari,

Kymelya has a degree in History from
