A strategic
International SOS Worldwide Special Issue – Our strategic alliance with Control Risks

Pages
Safety
and security
for the world’s business travelers
Both International SOS and Control Risks are pioneers in travel risk management. In recent
years both have seen clients dedicate increasing focus and resources to managing the threats
facing their employees abroad.
In the 21st century, globalization is
driving demand for travel risk
management. While travelers need
assurance that their employers consider
their safety as paramount, there’s
growing awareness among employers
of their duty of care to employees
abroad –especially in known areas of
risk. In response, International SOS’
new strategic alliance with Control
Risks is designed to enhance the
security services available to
international travelers and expatriates.
Strategic alliance between the best
in the world
“We’ve formed this alliance because we
believe it is the best way to meet our
clients’ travel security needs”, explains
International SOS Chairman, Arnaud
Vaissié. “This is a natural partnership
between the world’s largest provider of
integrated medical and security
assistance and its leading security risk
consultancy”. Established in 1975,
Control Risks is the world’s leading
independent business risk consultancy.
Control Risks’ 1,200 expert consultants
provide advice and support that enables
their international clients to manage the
strategic, operational and reputational
risks they face.
“
We’ve formed this
alliance because we
believe it is the best
way to meet our
clients’ travel
security needs. ”
Arnaud Vaissié, International SOS
As Richard Fenning, Control Risks’
CEO explains, having a joint response
to travel risk management is a key
requirement for international companies
in today’s world. “Companies need a
coordinated travel security program that
supports them end to end”, he says.
“They want high-quality risk assessment
combined with an on-the-ground
response if needed. And they want
solutions that can integrate the medical
and security aspects of business travel”.
The alliance integrates the security
operations of both companies at the
point of delivery so that clients benefit
from an increased level of resource and
expertise. It offers best-in-class security
intelligence, assistance and consultancy
services to advise and support travelers
before and on assignment, and provides
organizations with integrated risk
management plans, strategies and
responses. Control Risks’ excellence
in political and security risk analysis
along with its highly experienced
advisers and consultants complements
International SOS’ security teams and
global medical assistance capabilities
and infrastructure.
“By joining forces with Control Risks
we’re in an even better position to
meet the needs of multinational
organizations”, continues Arnaud
Vaissié. “Together we are able to
provide sophisticated travel-related
security services that are delivered
by a team of subject matter experts
and backed up by the resources of
both companies.
INTERNATIONAL SOS

Pages
While both International SOS and Control Risks
continue to operate independently, as part of the
alliance – a new joint operating unit has been formed
to provide the most robust, effective and complete
package of support for international travel.
24/7 Global Security Center, London
We asked Arnaud Vaissié and Richard
Fenning some of the questions clients
have been asking.
What does the alliance offer which
clients can’t already access through
International SOS or Control Risks?
RF. This alliance gives us a global
network and operational resources that
are second to none. And it puts us in a
very strong position to offer even more
choice and to pioneer new services
over time.
AV. All our clients now benefit from a
larger team and more resources globally.
Together, we can offer more extensive
travel security analysis, expanded
24-hour security assistance services and
a traveler tracking service that combines
the very best of each organization’s
traveler tracking solutions. We also offer
specialist security consulting services.
How is the strategic alliance
structured?
AV. This alliance is comprised of two
components – a sales & marketing
partnership and a joint operating unit.
This unit delivers the security services
for international travelers and expatriates
of both International SOS’ and Control
Risks’ clients. It brings together people,
infrastructure, capabilities and expertise
of the parent companies.
What does this mean for
International SOS clients currently
holding Comprehensive membership?
AV. Clients now get access to services
provided by our combined resources. For
the Comprehensive members, this access
complements International SOS’ existing
global presence. In addition, it also
enhances the travel security component
of the integrated medical, security and
online solutions that we currently offer.
What does this mean for clients
who already buy security services
separately from International SOS
and Control Risks?
AV. The clients continue to have a single
point of delivery for the services they
currently demand. These services now
come with a significantly enhanced
travel security component. And if a
client is interested in other services, their
account manager can arrange for them to
be introduced to the right person either at
International SOS or Control Risks. We
want to make it easy and seamless for
clients to take advantage of the full range
of services on offer.
What will this alliance offer that isn’t
available elsewhere in the market?
RF. No other company can match the
depth of expertise, resources and
geographic reach that we jointly offer.
Is this a prelude to a merger or
creation of a new brand?
AV. No. Each company will continue
to operate independently. This is an
alliance with shared ownership of the
joint operating unit specifically to deliver
services in the travel security sector.
The capabilities within this unit are
being promoted by International SOS
and Control Risks in order to capitalize
on the strengths of the two existing
brands in their respective fields.
A comprehensive
portfolio
The alliance brings together a team of
professionals whose sole focus is to
protect international travelers and
assignees. As with International SOS’
current services, the cornerstone is the
Comprehensive or Security membership
through which clients can access a core
set of integrated advice and assistance
services.
PREPARE
The strategic alliance offers integrated services to
prepare and support employees to travel, track
them on assignment, inform and advise
organizations of risk, and respond when
