Interpretation of Treatment Effects for Sharp RD Designs • Treatment effect is interpreted as the average treatment effect at the cutoff ( s ). • This is in contrast to what is usually estimated by the RE, which is the average treatment effect ( ATE ). • Without further assumptions about functional form, s generalizes only to this cutoff point on this assignment variable. • Cutoff may or may not be of policy or practical relevance.
