decision to participate. Both advantages and challenges are involved
with enrolling for early college credit. ISU college credits and grades
earned are recorded on a permanent college transcript.
Choices and Eligibility:
Students who are ready for a challenge
may choose to earn credit toward
high school graduation, get an early
start on their college education and
experience savings in both time and
money by participating in the Early
College Program. Students must be
academically qualified and ready for the
personal responsibility and extra work
involved in taking a college-level course
before high school graduation. Reduced
fees at various levels are offered
depending upon the option chosen by
a student. Discover your capabilities,
gain confidence and enhance your study
skills by accepting this greater challenge
before completing high school.
• AP courses/CLEP exams
High School Students Must...
• Have a 3.00 high school GPA (for students taking
academic courses).
• Be at least 16 years old (at start of semester), or have
successfully completed at least one-half of the high
school graduation requirements as certified by the high
school.
• Students must sign the registration/payment form.
A parent must sign the Early College Program Parent/
Guardian Permission form once. By signing this form,
a parent or guardian grants permission for the student
to continue enrolling in dual credit classes as long as
they are eligible, unless otherwise directed in writing.
• A counselor, principal or another administrator must sign
a class roster or registration form in the case of oncampus
classes. This signature verifies the student is
ready for college-level work.

General Education Goals
and Degree Requirements:
Are high school students eligible for
federal financial grants or loans?
No. The federal government requires students to
have a high school diploma, or equivalent, to be
eligible for federal grants or loans.
All Idaho State University degree-seeking
students must fulfill departmental, general
education, and university requirements to
graduate in their particular field of study. The
How do I register for courses?
Where can I attend classes?
In addition to the classes offered in high schools
in the region, students may take classes on the
main campus in Pocatello, or at campus outreach
centers in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, and other
locations. Distance learning is an option through
our rural network.
Will dual credits earned be
accepted at other universities and
colleges?
Credits are transferable to Idaho colleges and
universities and most other institutions outside
the state. A limited number of institutions do not
accept college credits earned on a high school
campus or classes taken for both high school
and college credit. Students are responsible
for checking with an admissions counselor at a
college where they plan to enroll after high school
graduation to see if their dual credits will be
accepted.
How much will a course cost?
All qualified high school students receive
a partial fee waiver from ISU. Reduced
course fees differ depending upon the
delivery method and number of credits
awarded for the course. See the chart
on page 2 for the cost per credit hour.
Some courses, such as biological science
courses, also have a laboratory fee.
Students must pay lab fees and purchase
textbooks and other materials needed for
courses held on the college campus, at
distance learning sites, or via the Web.
