Instructions of the
Promised Messiah (peace be on him)
Regarding Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention)
The Importance of Jalsa Salana
"This Jalsa should not be considered like other ordinary gatherings. Its
foundation has been laid by Alimighty God by His own hand and nations
have been prepared for it who will soon join in."
The important purpose of holding Jalsa Salana.
So that the love for the world may cool down and the love for Almighty
God and the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) may
dominate the hearts and such a state of detachment may be created of that the
journey to the Hereafter may not be detestable."
Admonitions to the participants of Jalsa Salana
"All should listen carefully with full attention and concentration since this is
a matter concerning faith. Slackness, carelessness and absence of atttention
produce very bad effects. Those people who are careless in matters of faith
and when they are addressed and told something, they do not listen to it with
concentration, these do not benefit at all from the speeches no matter how
excellent they may be in their usefulness and effectiveness. These are the
people about him it is said that they have ears but they do not listen, they have
hearts but they do not understand. So remember to listen to whatever is told
with attention and much concentration because he who does not listen with
attention cannot derive any benefit even if he remains in the company of a
beneficial person for a long time." (Al-Hakam, 10 March 1902)
Prayers of the Promised Messiah for the participants of Jalsa Salana
"Finally I pray to God that He may be with all those who are coming to attend
the Jalsa and that He may grant them great reward and He may have mercy on
them and may He make easy for them their state of difficulties and distress,
and may He remove their worries and grief and may He relieve them of every
hardship and may He open for them the path of achieving their objectives and
may He raise them on the Day of Resurrection with those of His servants who
are under His grace and mercy and may he be the Guardian of their kith and
kin till the end of their journey.
O God, the Almighty and Great Grantor, The Merciful and Remover of
hardships, do accept all these prayers and grant us victory over our opponents
with brilliant signs for You have all the power and might."
(Ishtihar 7 December 1892)
Special Features of 114th Jalsa Salana Qadian
This year's convention assumes great significance because Hazrat Mirza
Masroor Ahmad Sahib, Khalifatul Masih V, the Supreme Spiritual Head of
the Jamaat Ahmadiyya will grace the convention with his benign presence
and also address the gathering. By his coming to Qadian some revelations
which the Promised Messiah received from Almighty God will be fulfilled.
For example the Promised Messiah had received the revelation,
"Most surely He who had made the teaching of the Quran binding on thee
will bring thee back to thy place of return." (Tazkira p. 309)
After the demise of the Promised Messiah (peace be on him) Hazrat
Maulana Nooruddin Sahib (Allah be pleased with him) became the first
Khalifa of the Promised Messiah on 25th RabiusSani 1326 Hijri (27th May
1908). Therefore this Jalsa Salana which is being held in 1426 Hijri marks
the centenary of the Khilafat according to the Hijri calendar. The Hijri lunar
calendar is important in Islam. Forms of worship like Fasting and Haj are
regulated by this calendar.
Another notable aspect of this convention is that the institution of Wasiyyat
(The Will) completes on hundred year according the the Christian calendar.
On 20th December 1905 the Promised Messiah announced the great
institution of Wasiyyat and on 25th December 1905 Hazrat Maulana Abdul
Karim Sahib (may Allah be pleased with him) became the first person to be
buried in the Bahishti Maqbara (Heavenly graveyard). With this the prophecy
of the Holy Quran "And when the heaven is brought near" (81:14) was
fulfilled in a remarkable manner.
In the first Jalsa Salana held in 1891 A.D. 75 persons attended. In the last
Jalsa Salana held in Qadian under the leadership of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih
II, the attendance was 33,786. It is expected that by God's grace the
attendance this year will exceed the earlier record.
May Allah, the Almighty, shower his choicest blessings on every participant
of the Jalsa.
Important Requests
We convey our Salams and heartiest welcome to all the guests of Jalsa
Salana Qadian and we pray that Almighty Allah may make your stay in
Qadian a blessing in every way.
During your stay in Qadian please keep in mind the following points :
1. Spend much of your time in Qadian in the remembrance of God, prayer
and Darud. Recite the Holy Quran regularly after Fajr prayer. This was the
practice of the companions of the Promised Messiah, peace be on him.
2. Keep praying for the triumph of Islam and Ahmadiyyat, the progress of
Jamat Ahmadiyya, for the health and long life of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V
aba and for his outstanding success in his objectives.
Huzoor aba and the lectures of other scholars.
(Dars). During the days of Jalsa Salana, Zuhar and Asar prayers will be
offered under the leadership of Huzoor aba in the Jalsa Gah.
5. During the Jalsa, Prayers will be combined. It should be remembered that
according to Ahadith, the Holy Prophet s.a.w.s. (peace and blessings of Allah
be upon him), used to combine Zuhar and Asar prayers, and Maghrib and Isha
prayers on account of rain and other necessities as well as for religious
purpose. Hence in view of the spiritual purpose of Jalsa Salana, for the
convenience of the guests and the hosts and for the sake of benefitting from
the lectures, prayers will be combined. Zuhar and Asar prayers can both be
offered at the time of Zuhar or Asar, and Maghrib or Isha prayers can both be
offered at the time of Maghrib or Isha. In Hadith it has also been mentioned
that our beloved prophet Muhammad s.a.w.s (peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him) combined prayers in Madina without any excuse of rain or disease.
When Abdullah bin Abbas was asked about the reason for combining two
prayers, he replied that it was because the Holy Prophet s.a.w.s wishes that in
his Ummah (followers) no one may be put into difficulty.
(Sahih Muslim Baab Al Jama Bain as Salatain Fil Hazar)
8

6. If it has been announced that Zuhar and Asar will be combined, the
Sunnat before and after Zuhar are omitted (Fiqah Ahmadiyya p. 187). When
Maghrib and Isha prayers are combined only Vitar should be offered. The
Sunnat prayers are omitted.
7. The Department of Tarbiyyat had published last year a book on "Qadian
and its sacred places" An introduction to the sacred and historical places of
Qadian can be obtained by reading this book.
8. When praying at the tomb of the Promised Messiah (peace be on him) in
Bahishti Maqbara) observe the Islamic practice of raising the hands and
praying. Refrain from non-Islamic idolatrous practices such as taking mud
from the grave, putting flowers, etc.
9. Do not waste food. Put in your plate as much as you can eat.
10. In residential houses toilets bathrooms etc observe cleanliness. Do not
smoke in residential houses and streets.
11. Do not eat meat or chicken from any non-Ahmadi shop since the animal
is not killed according to the Islamic way.
12. Those who are coming from Pakistan should not go outside Qadian,
unless they have visas for other places.
13. Do not engage in talks about politics and do not speak anything that
may cause difficulties to organizers.
14. If you need anything or if you have any difficulty during your stay in
Qadian, immediately contact the officer of Jalsa Salana Qadian. In the
enclosed map, this office is indicated and the telephone number is also given.
It is our prayer that Almighty Allah may be the Protector and Helper of all
of us during the stay and in the journey.
