8 Ways to Make it Successfully
Through at least 8 More Years of School
By Tielyn Redd
1. Put Your Education First!
Nothing should come before your school work! Not even friends or your job should come before your work because your
education is what’s most important. If something is causing you to turn in late assignments or to not have enough time to finish your
work, then you should eliminate it from your schedule so it wont be in the way. And always remember that educational opportunities
won’t wait for you, so you have to work for it!
2. Work Hard!
Don’t be lazy! Make sure you finish everything you are assigned in class. To make doing your work more fun, encourage your friends
to work hard too! That way you won’t seem like you are being singled out. It’s also very helpful that you and your friends can help
each other out. And don’t just stop there… Extra credit will always come in handy! Trust me, all of your work will pay off in the long
run.
3. Play Sports!
Playing sports will help you with a lot of things. First off, playing a sport will help you keep your grades up. In most schools
you have to make certain grades to play in a sport and if you don’t, then most likely you will have some sort of punishment. On a
team, you will be recognized for your talents. This makes it easier to get scholarships and get accepted into colleges. If you are already
accepted into a college, it will help you to make more friends if you’ve decided to go out of state.
4. Join Organizations!
Joining organizations inside and outside of school can prove that you know how to work with others. It also proves that you
spend your time effectively and instead of just sitting on someone’s porch. When colleges see that you are involved in other
organizations, they will be more likely to want you to attend because you are more likely to get involved with the college groups. You
can even get scholarships for some of the organizations you participate in. Joining organizations will also help you make friends.
5. Study and Take the ACT/SAT!
Studying for the ACT and the SAT will increase your chances of getting higher scores. Higher scores will definitely increase
your chances of getting accepted into more schools. And higher test scores will not only increase your letters of acceptance, but it will
make you eligible for more scholarships. Yes! Scholarships will make you worry free about how to pay tuition.
6. Don’t Be Late!
Being tardy to school or work is a major no no! If you are late to class, you are missing a lot of important things that could be
on a test later. Missing points on a test will cause your grade to be lower. So if you are late, you cannot complain about your grade
being too low or your class being too hard because you are not putting your all into your work. Being late to school also shows on
your record. Your tardys will show up when colleges go to look at your transcripts. So think twice before you decide to be late.
7. Look For Scholarships!
You can never have too much money to go to college. During your free time, go online and look up scholarships and join
organizations that promise you scholarships. If you look hard enough, you can find scholarships for anything - like being left handed
or having red hair. And the best thing about some scholarships is that sometimes you can use left over money for your own personal
use.
8. Have a Goal!
Most importantly, have a goal! If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. You always need to know where you are headed.
Having a goal doesn’t mean just knowing what school you are going to, you need to look further into your goal. Like what
requirements you have to meet to get accepted to each school. Make time to research your goals and plans. You should know so much
about what you are going to do that if some one asked you a question about it you would be able to answer without thinking about it.
How To Keep A Positive Attitude During School
By: Amanda Collier
Are you constantly stressed out over school home or maybe even work? Well, as a teen, you know we are already
stressed with friends, school, family, and the pressure to fit in or maybe even just peer pressure - period. Being a
teenager myself, I can tell you that I understand. We go through so many changes in our life and have added drama
with school. Sometimes we can’t take it all. But here are some tips to help you with the basics:
Take Power Naps - Students, with their packed schedules, are notorious for missing sleep. Trying to function in a
sleep-deprived state puts you at a disadvantage. You’re less productive and it is more difficult to learn when you are
tired. Once you learn how to power nap, you will see how much better you feel!
Get Exercise - One of the healthiest ways to get rid of stress is to get. You can easily work exercise into your schedule
by doing yoga in the morning and walking to school or to do errands. Playing a sport is a great way to help you have
less stress and enjoy your life more.
Enjoy Music - Music can help you to relieve stress and either calm yourself down or stimulate your mind
as needed. Students can get the most out of music by playing classical music while studying and playing
upbeat music to wake up your brain. Slow melodies are a good way to relax.
Stay Organized - Clutter can cause stress and decrease productivity. A cluttered room or study area
can have negative effects on grades. Reduce the stress and improve your grades by keeping a study
area that’s free of distractions and clutter. You’ll be surprised at the difference it makes!
Eat Right - You may not realize it, but your diet directly affects your mental power! Eating right can also relieve
stress because you will do better in school and reduce your worries about your grades. A proper diet also makes you
feel better so that you can focus on learning, and that is another way to be stress free.
