Love that has
grown cold
JESUS WARNED
that there would
come a time when
“the love of most
will grow cold”
(Matthew 24:12).
From the context,
He was clearly
talking about love
for one another
within the church
rather than those
who do not believe.
It is often in the
small, everyday
things of life that
love grows cold.
We are upset by
another and fail to
find forgiveness or
reconciliation. We
rejoice in another’s
sin as it feeds
our superiority.
Someone else is
preferred to us
so we sulk. These
daily failures to find
God’s transforming
grace and to be
penitent and broken
all lead to a dying
away of that fire of
love within us.
Subtly, “first
love” become “selflove”
as we serve
ourselves, protect
ourselves and
promote ourselves.
It is not a waning
of emotional

feeling that causes
churches to die,
but a failure of
the choice to
live moment by
moment in the
humble love of
Jesus expressed
towards our
brothers and sisters
in Christ.
We need again
to “put on” love
(Colossians 3:14),
each day expressing
the heart of love to
those around us in
order to keep our
hearts from falling
away from the
living God.

IN SEPTEMBER, the Annual Praise-Day at
Sheffield was alive with the Holy Spirit’s
presence. November, “Men Alive for God”
saw up to 600 men learning, worshipping,
receiving. October/November New Friends
Courses nationwide had a good crowd
of new friends attending with up to 30
immediate baptisms and more to follow.
