CASTLE CREEK
Theodore Presser Company (King of Prussia, PA, 2009)
Arranged by Paul Bissell. For wind ensemble. First
Edition. Written in celebration of the Aspen Music
Festival’s 40th anniversary, and served as a special
tribute to the Festival’s longtime President, Gordon
Hardy. Gordon’s initials (G.A.H.) are used as the
musical basis for the fanfare, which is centered on the
ascending pitches G, A and B, and reflects the upward
motion and positivity of the Aspen Music Festival
itself. For advanced players. Duration: ca. 5’. Full
score, 40 p.
GLACIER
Theodore Presser Company (King of Prussia, PA, 2009)
For wind ensemble. First Edition. Written for the
Southeastern Conference Band Directors Association.
The fourth composition in Welcher’s series inspired
by National Parks in the American West. The feeling
of icy stillness permeates the piece’s opening, and as
percussive, brittle motives enter, a sense of warming
eventually melts the ice and brings new life, only to be
frozen over once again as the glaciers prevail. For
advanced players. Duration: ca. 10’. Full score, 48 p.
Theodore Presser Company (King of Prussia, PA, 2008)
For SATB choir. First Edition. Part of the Ithaca College
Choral Series. Commissioned for the Ithaca College
Annual Choral Festival, Dan Welcher has created a
beautiful collection of three Walt Whitman poems: I
Celebrate Myself; I Am He That Walks and There Is That
in Me. They are serious, yet flow easily, and will be
very useful for college choirs. For advanced and
college choirs.
SPUMANTE
A Festive Overture for Large Wind Ensemble
Theodore Presser Company (King of Prussia, PA, 2009)
Transcribed by Paul Bissell. For wind ensemble. First
Edition. Commissioned by the Boston Pops and its
conductor, Keith Lockhart, and premiered during the
celebratory opening of their 1998 season. Premiered
by the Dallas Wind Symphony in January of 2000,
conducted by Dr. Kevin L. Sedatole. This work recalls
the neoclassical style of the 1940s exemplified by
composers such as William Schuman and Vincent
Persichetti. It also employs inversion, a technique in
which the first theme is simply turned inside-out and
presented as a second theme. For advanced players.
Duration: ca. 7’. Full score, 48 p.
