FIDDLE LIKE THE DICKENS! (Christmas Carols

Coverly as played by three solo fiddlers (or two violins and 

one viola). This fiddle tune, named by Dickens in his 1843

“Carmen” meets Hanukkah in this remarkably clever 

combination of The Dreidel Song; Hanukkah, O Hanukkah 

and Bizet’s famous Habanera from his most famous opera! 

It all works amazingly well, with shifts from minor to major, a 

seamless bass line, and lots of tongue-in-cheek humor! What 

a hoot! Highly recommended! 



Wagner. This artfully crafted medley brings to the stage 

several of Holst’s best-loved Christmas titles, including In the 

Bleak Midwinter; Lullay My Liking and excerpts from Christmas 

Day. The rich scoring creates a satisfying musical experience,

sharp dynamics. This is one of the best-known of the 

concerti, and because of its subtitle, is perfect for any

Written by Gustav Holst in 1910 for choir and orchestra,

folk song, Une Jeune Pucelle (A Young Maid). Intended as 

a gift and teaching aid to the Huron people, Brebeuf wrote 

the lyrics in their native language. The Moon of Winter is a 

powerful, moving adaptation of the carol for strings that will

Soldiers, this instrumental theme has become a favorite of the 

holiday season. It was used in a 1933 animated short feature 

starring Betty Boop and a parade of toys that magically come 

to life to crown their queen. Strong, steady, and “British” in 

character, but with the added magical sounds of childhood 

sprinkled over the top, this piece is a true holiday gem! 


SANTA AT THE SYMPHONY—Mark Williams. This 

has been a big hit for concert band! Mark has ingeniously 

blended classical music themes (“Eine Kleine Nachtmusik”; 

“1812 Overture” and Brahms’ “First Symphony”) with 

seasonal melodies (Silent Night;, Jingle Bells and Nutcracker 

Suite) to create an absolutely wonderful package of holiday
