<strong>KAPRB</strong> <strong>ADULT</strong> COED <strong>SOFTBALL</strong><br />
<strong>RULES</strong> <strong>UPDATED</strong> 3/<strong>21</strong>/<strong>07</strong><br />
FOLLOW ALL ASA <strong>RULES</strong> IN ADDITION TO THE FOLLOWING:<br />
1. Participation Restrictions<br />
A. Players are permitted to play on only one team in all Kennett CoEd league sponsored league and only<br />
one team.<br />
2. Homerun limit – 2. After that, ball hit over fence, batter is out.<br />
3. If no women show up for a team at game time, it will be a forfeit.<br />
4. Starting lineup requirements<br />
A. A team must start if nine (9) players are present at the scheduled game time. A team starting with (9)<br />
players will leave the blank spot in either the 9 th or 10 th spot blank to maintain the malefemale batting rotation<br />
B.If only 4 woman play, 1 field positions (with the exception of catcher) must be left vacant. The 1 vacant<br />
spot in the lineup are automatic outs and this team has the option to continue to play provided there are 5 men,<br />
no less. (Refer to rule #37 if additional women arrive).<br />
C. The batting order must consist of a malefemale rotation thru and up to 14 players<br />
D. Expanded Extra Player Rule<br />
1. Up to four (4) extra players may be used provided they are present in the dugout at the start of the<br />
game and listed on the lineup card in the regular batting order. The use of any extra players is optional but if<br />
used, the following rules apply:<br />
1a.The extra player(s) must remain in the same position in the batting order for the entire game.<br />
1b. Allof the player(s) listed in the starting lineup must bat, and any ten (10) may play defense.<br />
Defensive positions may change, but the batting order must remain the same.<br />
1c. The extra player(s) may be substituted for and reenter at anytime<br />
1d. Either two (2) or four (4) extra players maybe used provided it maintains the male/female batting<br />
order rotation is maintained<br />
5. If only 4 women play, the 5th woman’s spot in the lineup is an automatic out and one field position (with<br />
the exception of catcher) must be vacant.<br />
6. Slaughter rule – 15 run lead 5 th inning game is over, 20 runs after 4 innings of play – exception: playoffs.<br />
7. Forfeits (caused by a team having less than the required number of players to start a game) will be paid by<br />
Kennett coed league. Umpires will report the forfeit to the league president by the end of the next working day.<br />
The team causing the forfeit will be invoiced by <strong>KAPRB</strong> for the entire umpires’ fee plus a $5.00 administrative<br />
fee which must be paid in full before the next scheduled game. NOTE: Forfeits that occur after the game has<br />
started (usually caused by player ejection) do not require the umpire to return any monies paid to him before the<br />
game.<br />
A. If a game is suspended before it becomes official (rain,etc.) half of fee will be paid to the umpire.<br />
B. If a team forfeits more than two (2) games thru out the season the will become ineligible for the playoffs.<br />
C. If a team forfeits more than two (2) games thru the season they will be not asked back for the next season<br />
8. Games will be scheduled Monday – Wed. nights starting at 6:30 p.m. WITH NO GRACE PERIOD.<br />
And on Tues – Thurs. starting at 8pm WITH NO GRACE PERIOD<br />
9. Visiting team has field for practice 6:00 – 6:15 p.m. on Monday and Weds. Only
10. Home team has field for practice 6:15 – 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and Weds. Only (game starts at 6:30 p.m.<br />
with no grace period).<br />
11. Minimum of 5 women in the game always (exception rules #5 and #6).<br />
12. 1 courtesy foul permitted – women only.<br />
13. Arc pitch – between 6 and 12 feet.<br />
14. All teams should provide their own first aid and medical supplies<br />
15. Footwearuse of metal spikes is prohibited; multipurpose synthetic or rubber cleats are acceptable.<br />
16. Maximum 20 men players on the roster.<br />
17. Home team must supply a new ball and another ball in very good condition.<br />
18. Each team must keep score.<br />
19. Each team’s players should have shirts of the same color and a number on the back, after rosters are turned<br />
in and a player does not have the same color uniform an out may me used against this player once per game at<br />
any point of the game.<br />
20. Each team supplies its own equipment.<br />
<strong>21</strong>. Illegal (unapproved) Warmup Bats and ASA bats: the use of any nonapproved by ASA is prohibited at or<br />
in the vicinity of the ball field. PENALTY: 1 st offense the player will be asked to remove it from the field , 2 nd<br />
offense the player will be BANNED from play for 1 or more years.<br />
22. All teams make playoffs (exception rule 7c)<br />
23. Each team plays ____ games, weather permitting.<br />
24. Rainouts will be arranged by the league president.<br />
25. If the umpire calls the game after 5 complete innings due to darkness, weather, etc, the team that has the<br />
lead is the winner, including playoffs.<br />
26. At the third week of regular season play, rosters are closed to men and turned in, while remaining open to<br />
women. Penalty will be 7 – 0 loss of the third game and any subsequent games that roster is not turned in.<br />
Also, player fees must be paid by third game.<br />
27. When a man batting directly prior to a woman is walked, the man is awarded second base, base runners are<br />
moved ahead appropriately, and the woman bats, Exception: a woman may choose not to bat if there are 2 outs<br />
and she is awarded first base automatically<br />
28. A 1 and 1 count on every player to start an at bat<br />
29. Each male player must play in at least half of the regular season games in order to participate in the<br />
playoffs (exception rule # 34).
30. Reentry rule: If you start any player and take that player out, you can reenter that player at any time at<br />
any position, but only once – meaning you cannot start a player, take them out, reenter them, take them out<br />
again, and reenter them – instead that person is done for the game. Also, batting order must not change.<br />
31. You can pinch hit for a player of the same sex, but that pinch hitter will be done for the game.<br />
32. A #44/375 core ball will be used for men and a #44/375 core, 11 inch ball for women.<br />
33. Deleted<br />
34. If a male becomes injured during the current season and then was well enough to play in the playoffs, as<br />
long as he played in half the games or more in the previous season, he is still permitted to play in the playoffs<br />
(in the current season), provided the player has played a minimum of 3 games in the current season.<br />
35. If 2 teams have the same winloss season record, and equal wins when playing head to head, then the team<br />
with the most runs when playing head to head achieves the better season record.<br />
36. Playoff format is to be determined.<br />
37. Deleted<br />
38. Collision and interference – use new ASA rule – if fielder does not have ball in glove, runner has right and<br />
field has to get out of way. Umpire can call interference resulting in players being called out and/or ejected from<br />
the game.<br />
39. If there is a dispute within the league, it will be handled in the following manner:<br />
1. All managers will be contacted (assistant manager if manager cannot be reached).<br />
2. All managers meet at ball field at predetermined time.<br />
3. Both sides of disputes are presented.<br />
4. A vote is taken.<br />
5. If there is a tie vote, one vote will be cast out by pulling numbers from a hat. (There was a number<br />
assigned to each team for scheduling purposes).<br />
40. If an appeal is made, it must be made while both teams and umpire are still on the field.<br />

42. Home team must put line up cards in the box in shed with the scores on them in order to be given<br />
credit for games played<br />
43. No alcoholic beverages permitted on the ball field and/or Borough property.<br />
44. Parking is permitted in the parking lot only.<br />
45. Ejected player rule: same as ASA rule that states when a player is ejected, he or she is automatically not<br />
permitted to play in the next game and will be awarded another game suspension from the league.<br />
46. No abusive language, obscene gestures toward umpires, players or spectators and including spectators.
47. Commitment Line – if a player is passing third base and heads toward home plate and crosses the<br />
commitment line (half way between third base and home plate – 32 ½ feet) the runner must go home no matter<br />
if they are going to be out.<br />
48. Double home plate is to be used. Under no circumstances is a runner to use the front home plate to<br />
score. If a runner uses the front home plate, the player is out. Purpose is to avoid any contact with the<br />
catcher or player covering the plate.<br />
A. Runners tagged by the defensive team will not be called out.<br />
49. Should a defensive player touch the second home plate and still touch the original home plate before the<br />
runner reaches the second home plate, the runner would be out.<br />
ADDENDUM<br />
1. Team defined as any group of players that participate as a unit in any formal softball, hardball, ball<br />
and bat league or tournament.<br />
2. Roster defined as any written record of individuals who participate on a team regardless of the<br />
frequency of that participation.<br />
3. League defined as any formal association of teams that monitor wins and losses.<br />
4. Formalpertaining to games played using a paid umpire.
