PRESS RELEASE
FELONY SENTENCING HEARINGS THURSDAY DECEMBER 22, 2005:
Maxine Constantino, 19, of Hanamaulu, was sentenced by Judge Kathleen N.A.
Watanabe to a five-year term of probation for Theft in the Second Degree. Special
conditions to Constantino’s probation include serving 243 days in jail (the amount she
already served pending sentencing in this case), payment of $26,070 in restitution to the
victim, substance abuse evaluation and treatment as recommended, drug and alcohol
testing as directed by her probation officer, having no contact with her co-defendants,
seeking and maintaining full time employment or a course of study approved by her
probation officer, and payment of court fees.
Constantino entered her guilty plea to the felony offense on October 11, 2005.
Constantino, Malia Kiilau and Sheyenne Morikawa were arrested after taking over
$26,000 worth of jewelry from Mariko Store in Hanapepe on December 31, 2004. Kiilau
was previously sentenced in this matter and for unrelated felony offenses. Morikawa is
Christopher Relacion, 41, of Lihue, was granted a deferment of his guilty pleas
to Forgery in the Second Degree and Theft in the First Degree by Judge Kathleen N.A.
Watanabe for a period of five years. Special conditions to Relacion’s deferment include
serving 45 days in jail, performing 300 hours of community service work, payment of
$122,563.39 in restitution to Bank of Hawaii, and payment of court fees.
Relacion tendered his guilty pleas to the felony offenses on October 13, 2005.
Should Relacion comply with all conditions of deferment over the next five years, these
offenses will be expunged from his record. In August and September 2002 Relacion was
a Bank of Hawaii branch manager and made two fraudulent business loans from Bank of
Hawaii. The matter was discovered in 2004 after Bank of Hawaii sued the person whose
signature Relacion forged on the applications for payment on the loans. That person, a
relative of Relacion, then reported the matter to the police.
