PRESS RELEASE<br />
FELONY SENTENCING HEARINGS YESTERDAY:<br />
Ruben Dias, 26, <strong>of</strong> Lihue, was sentenced by Chief Judge George M. Masuoka to five<br />
years in prison for Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree. Dias entered his guilty<br />
plea to the felony <strong>of</strong>fense on February 13, 2006. Officers <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Kauai</strong> Police Department<br />
Narcotics Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant authorizing a search <strong>of</strong> Dias and his<br />
vehicle on September 24, 2004 based on confirmed allegations that Dias and his wife was<br />
distributing crystal methamphetamine in the Lihue and Kawaihau districts. Police recovered<br />
plastic packets and a glass pipe containing methamphetamine in the vehicle which was occupied<br />
by Dias and his wife, Michelle Dias.<br />
Michelle Dias, 26, who entered a guilty plea to the felony <strong>of</strong>fense <strong>of</strong> Unlawful Use <strong>of</strong> or<br />
Possession with Intent to Use Drug Paraphernalia on February 27, 2006 for her part in the same<br />
incident was sentenced to five year term <strong>of</strong> probation for that felony <strong>of</strong>fense by Judge Masuoka<br />
yesterday. Special Conditions to her probation include serving one year in jail, performing 300<br />
hours <strong>of</strong> community service, submitting to drug testing at his own expense, and payment <strong>of</strong> fines<br />
and fees. Dias may reduce the amount <strong>of</strong> time in jail she must serve if after 90 days she
successfully completes a residential substance abuse treatment program.<br />
Dorothy Jean Logsdon, 46, <strong>of</strong> Lawai, was sentenced by Judge Kathleen N.A. Watanabe<br />
to a 5 year term <strong>of</strong> probation for Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree. Special<br />
Conditions to Logsdon’s probation include serving 90 days in jail, performing 500 hours <strong>of</strong><br />
community service, participation in any and all programs <strong>of</strong> rehabilitation as recommended by<br />
her probation <strong>of</strong>ficer, submitting to drug testing at her own expense, and payment <strong>of</strong> court fees.<br />
Logsdon entered her guilty plea to the felony <strong>of</strong>fense on February 21, 2006. Officers <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Kauai</strong> Police Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant on Logsdon and<br />
her Lawai Residence on December 20, 2004. Police recovered over 38 grams <strong>of</strong><br />
methamphetamine from the residence. Logsdon had a clean record with no prior arrests for<br />
criminal <strong>of</strong>fenses until her arrest in December 2004.<br />
