Muhammad Kazmi Eye Surgeon Optical Express

Mr Kazmi is a very experienced ophthalmic surgeon, having more than 25 years experience in the field of
ophthalmology. He specialises in refractive surgery has performed over 25,000 procedures in the past 13
years. In addition to this, Mr Kazmi has also performed over 20,000 intraocular procedures including
cataract surgery, refractive lens exchange and phakic lens implant surgery. Mr Kazmi was also among the
first 30 surgeons to be awarded the certificate in Laser Refractive Surgery by the Royal College of
Ophthalmologists.
Mr.Kazmi graduated from University of Punjab in 1986 and after his first internship he came to UK for
ophthalmic training in 1988. He trained in various hospitals across the UK including Stirling Royal Infirmary,
Victoria Hospital Blackpool and the Royal Surrey County Hospital. He was awarded Fellowship in
Ophthalmology by the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.
Mr Kazmi was among the first wave of surgeons to master Phacoemulsification Cataract and foldable IOL
implant surgery. He was asked to train surgeons in Saudi Arabia in Phacoemulsification surgery and then
joined the Almana Group of hospitals and worked there for seven years. During his time there, he
commenced a refractive laser surgery fellowship with Prof. Pallikaris, the inventor of LASIK procedure, in
the University of Crete and then practiced refractive surgery in the Almana Hospital.
He returned to UK in 2007 as full time laser refractive surgeon and has been engaged in this speciality
since then.
