The girls participated in the Performing Arts and Sports Projects. Anyang Liu: Earned a Scholarship pass in NCEA Level 3 Statistics. Aneesya Raviharan an ex Kelston Girls College student studying at the University of Auckland is doing post graduatestudy in Commerce this year and has been awarded a graduate position at Ernst and Young for February 2011. HEALTH AND SAFETY The Youth 2000 and Youth 2007 surveys are the most comprehensive surveys done on the health of New Zealand adolescents. This summary of the findings of the most recent survey make interesting reading for teachers and parents alike. It is attached. HEALTH CENTRE Cervical cancer immunisation available to girls again in 2010 Public health nurses will be back in schools offering free HPV immunisation to girls this year. More than 99 percent of cervical cancer is linked to an HPV infection, and this year alone about 60 New Zealand women will lose their lives to this cancer. Girls who missed out on immunisation last year will have another opportunity to be immunised at school this year. 2010 will be the last year of the schoolbased programme for girls in school year 9 and above. From 2011 onwards the HPV vaccine will only be available to girls in school year eight, at participating schools. The benefits of the HPV immunisation programme will become evident over time, as lower rates of HPV infection and abnormal cervical changes are seen. More information about the HPV immunisation programme is available from www.cervicalcancervaccine.govt.nz or 0800 IMMUNE (0800 466 863). ATHLETICS DAY AT KELSTON GIRLS’ COLLEGE Congratulations to the girls who were Auckland Secondary School Champs qualifiers as a result of the Kelston Girls College Athletics Day on Tuesday. A team will represent Kelston Girls’ College at Mt Smart Stadium Championships. KELSTON GIRLS COLLEGE SPORTS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES For 2010, we are in search of experienced, committed and organised coaches and managers for all sports teams. We are also looking to introduce new initiative sports into the sporting programme. Golf, lawn bowls, squash and table tennis. 2010 WINTER SPORT COACHES & MANAGERS REQUIRED for; BASKETBALL, NETBALL, SQUASH, FOOTBALL, HOCKEY, RUGBY, BADMINTON Coaches: Basic commitment: One or two trainings and one midweek after school game played. (Netball has Saturday morning games played at Waitakere courts, Henderson). Job Description: We are looking for passionate, enthusiastic, driven coaches to continue developing these sports and utilising their expertise and experience for the growth and benefit of the students and the schools sporting programme. Managers: We are looking for managers of teams to help out with administrative and organisational tasks during the season, you do not need any previous experience within this role.
