Entry at 11+
The majority of our students enter Year 7 at age 11 – 12. All girls are required to attend the 11+
Entrance Day to sit the school’s own entrance examinations in English and Mathematics
(alternative arrangements can be made for students living overseas). Girls will also sit a
computer based test which covers literacy, numeracy and non- verbal reasoning. An offer of a
place is based on the results, an interview and a reference from the current school. For
Academic scholarships a shortlist of candidates will be invited to attend our scholarship recall
day. Practical scholarship assessments for drama, music and sport will be held on separate days.
Admission
Main points of entry to Kent College are at 11+, 13+ and 16+. Our policy is to accept students
with a range of abilities, which will span between those who are extremely able and those who
require moderate learning support or have gaps in their knowledge due, for example,
to interrupted schooling or illness. We can support such a range of abilities by providing a
high level of individual attention through small classes and close monitoring.
Entry at 13+
At the age of 13 – 14, students enter Year 9 after taking examinations in English, Mathematics,
Verbal Reasoning, Languages and Science. An offer of a place is based on the test results, an
interview and a reference from the current school (alternative arrangements can be made for
students living overseas). Auditions and assessments for Music, Drama, Sport and Art
scholarships are held following the examinations. Offers for a 13+ place may be made through
the 11+ process in Yr 6. Please contact the Admissions office for further details.
Entry at 16+
Entry to study AS/A Level courses is conditional on the student gaining at least six passes at
grade C or above in GCSE, IGCSE or equivalent examinations. A or B grades are expected in the
subjects a student hopes to study at AS level, certain subjects require an A grade. An offer of a
place is also based on an interview, recent school reports and a reference from the current
school. Students whose first language is not English are also required to sit entrance tests in
English as an Additional Language and Mathematics. We will focus upon a student’s suitability
to study for their chosen A level courses. Limited places are available.
Visits
We strongly recommend that, if possible, prospective students and their parents visit the
school to meet the Headmistress, staff and girls and to see our facilities.
Open Mornings are held each term and appointments can be made with the Director of
Admissions by telephoning +44 (0) 1892 820218. In order to gain the most from your visit to
the school we recommend that tours are arranged on a weekday during term time.
