Kent College is delighted to announce its best ever GCSE year with a record breaking 58% at
A* - A with 26% of grades an A*. This is the first set of results since the school’s move to
the more rigorous IGCSE at English and, with over 25% gaining an A*, the move seems
justified. In Biology and Latin 100% of all pupils achieved A* & A grades. In other areas of
the curriculum outstanding achievement was seen in subjects such as Business
Communications, Geography, Drama, German, Physics, Spanish and PE.
“I am very happy and delighted to get A* grades in all three Sciences which means I will
be able to achieve my goal of studying Medicine at university. I can’t wait to get into the
Sixth Form and to specialise in my subjects. My teachers helped so much and they have
been truly inspirational.” Lucy, GCSE Pupil
“Staying on at the Sixth Form and doing the subjects I am passionate about is going to be
fantastic, I really can’t wait, I just feel so overwhelmed!” Catharine, GCSE Pupil
Headmistress’ comment
These high academic standards are achieved by concentrating on the needs of the girls as
individuals. The headline percentages are impressive in their own right, but when you
consider that our value added scores show that girls at KC gain results of around one grade
higher in each subject than they would have done elsewhere, it’s even more remarkable.
Some individuals have really excelled gaining around 2.5 grades per subject. What could
have been a C is an A or an A* at KC.
Kent College Pembury has enjoyed yet another successful academic year which has seen a significant
pass rate increase since 2011 with 93% A* - C grades at A level and with almost half of all results
gained, an A* or A. Individuals have surpassed their expectations and gained well-deserved results
that will see them achieve top university places at their chosen destinations.
“Having achieved 4As at A Level and now knowing I have got into my first choice of university to
study English and Drama at Leeds, I couldn’t be any happier. Kent College helped prepare me for
these exams in many ways and encouraged us to work hard academically and to play hard at all
the extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities at the school.” Bianca, Yr 13 leaver
“I’m really pleased to get such good results and that I got my first choice university. I’ve been
really surprised with one of my grades, I got a B at AS Level, and really hoped for an A at A2 – and
I got it! The support from my teachers has been really good, I’ve been so happy at Kent College,
and this has helped me achieve these grades.” Rhiannon, Yr 13 leaver
Headmistress’ comment
We continue to be proud of the academic achievements of the girls at KC and our increasing strength
in traditional academic subjects. This year, particular praise must go to departments such as Classics,
Geography and Music, who have gained exceptional results. However, the girls are entering an
extremely competitive world when they leave school and it is more important than ever that they
are also developing leadership skills and the confidence to make them employable as well as highly
qualified. At Kent College, we pride ourselves on producing young women ready for the future in
every way.
