On the 21 st April 1916 the 5 th battalion advanced near Kut and fought a major engagement with<br />
the Turks. On the 27 th April many men reported sick with cholera. Environmental conditions were<br />
appalling and medical facilities were rudimentary. The regimental diaries state that 3 men died of<br />
Cholera on the 28 th April 1916. Alfred was one of these men.<br />
