On the 15 th April the 1 st Buffs were in trenches at Zonnebeke in Belgium. The battalion lost 8 men
and received 230 by way of draft from England. The battalion moved to Westhoek and manned a
number of posts until the 23 rd April. The fact that Henry was buried in Poperinghe tends to
indicate that he was injured earlier in the month and taken to a Poperinghe Base Hospital where
he subsequently succumbed to wounds.
