Friday 30 th November 1917 aged 35 years. Born Kennington. Resided Ashford. Enlisted Ashford.<br />
Husband of Rosetta Emily Flo White of “Banzui” Canterbury Road, Kennington, Ashford, <strong>Kent</strong>.<br />
George has no known grave. His name appears on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France.<br />

Before the outbreak of war George worked as a Cell-Hand in the Ashford Railway Yards<br />
(Locomotive, Carriage and Wagon Department). His name appears on the Ashford Railway<br />
Works Rolls of Honour and also the Dover Marine (SE&CR) Civic Railway War Memorial.<br />

On the 30 th November 1917 the German’s launched a massive counter attack in the vicinity of<br />
Cambrai. The 6 th battalion Buffs suffered enormous losses on this day. The Buffs made a<br />
successful counter attack at Pam Pam Farm near La Vacquerie. Hand to hand fighting took place<br />
and the men fought shell hole to shell hole. It is recorded that 340 men were killed, missing or<br />
wounded. George was one of those killed.<br />
