Ronald MacDonald Reaches Out
Our friends at Ronald MacDonald House
Charities (RMHC) have provided funds in
support of a KCCFA resource library for
families touched by childhood cancer. This
funding will allow us to make available the
latest parent support materials and childhood
cancer publications. Thanks to RMHC for
recognizing the importance of information and
support to families experiencing cancer.

Children’s Foundation
KCCFA’s Mentors for Life
program is one of the
recipients of funds raised
through the CIBC World
Markets Children’s Miracle
Day. Each year, on the first
Wednesday in December,
CIBC World Markets and
Wood Gundy investment
advisors, sales and trading staff across Canada
and around the world, donate their fees and
commissions to children’s charities. CIBC
World Markets Children’s Foundation chose
to support the Mentors for Life program
throughout 2004 and we applaud their investment
in youth.
Walking Upright Through Fire
Alan and Sandy Wilson lost their son Josh to
cancer in 2002. Now Alan has written a
touching account of Josh’s last few months and
presented a reading of his play “Walking
Upright Through Fire” in Lethbridge and
Calgary. Eugene Stickland, a Calgary playwright,
directed the reading and the audience
left feeling moved and inspired. Our thanks to
the Wilsons for sharing their story in support
of KCCFA and supporters who attended the
reading and made a donation in Josh’s name.
Angels Among Us
Debbie Logelin lost her infant granddaughter,
Italia Ellen Puglia, to cancer in 2002. Wanting
to make a difference in the lives of children
with cancer, Debbie launched the Guardian
Angel campaign. Each year, on Italia’s birthday,
Debbie asks family, friends and business
associates to donate what they can in memory
of her granddaughter. All donors receive a
guardian angel pin provided by Fosters Garden
Chapel. Over the past two years, this campaign
has raised over $6,000 for childhood
cancer research.
Help comes in all sizes
Preschoolers Lindsay & Katie Bray, Abigayle &
Daniel Blackmore, Elizabeth & Daniel Handford
and Alyssa Schultz sold Kool-Aid, cookies and
candy with the help of Susan Bray, their
dayhome caregiver. They were so proud of
their achievement and decided amongst
themselves that they wanted to give the
money they raised to children with cancer.
With a little help from a mom, the tiny tots
sent the proceeds ($10) to KCCFA.
Payback Time
Innovative Fitness trainers got a taste of their
own medicine at their recent Train the Trainer
event. Clients bid on the opportunity to put
their trainers to work with crunches, ball
workouts and weightlifting (to name a few).
They consoled their aching muscles the next
day knowing that they raised over $7,000 to
help with KCCFA programs. Congratulations
to both the trainers and the trainees!
