<strong>Catering</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Housekeeping</strong> <strong>Manager</strong><br />

THE ORGANIZATION<br />

The <strong>Kids</strong> <strong>Cancer</strong> <strong>Care</strong> Foundation of Alberta (KCC) is passionately dedicated to helping young people <strong>and</strong><br />

their families affected by cancer to survive <strong>and</strong> thrive in body, mind <strong>and</strong> spirit. KCC provides programs<br />

<strong>and</strong> funding in four key areas: Camp & Community Outreach, Pediatric Oncology Research, Hospital<br />

Support <strong>and</strong> Scholarships. This approach enhances the quality of life for children living with cancer,<br />

improves their odds for recovery <strong>and</strong> provides care for the whole family, during treatment <strong>and</strong> beyond.<br />

Camp Kindle provides safe, exceptional camp experiences for young people <strong>and</strong> their families affected<br />

by cancer. Our free weekend <strong>and</strong> summer camps offer kids across Alberta a chance to escape the rigours<br />

of cancer treatments for outdoor fun <strong>and</strong> adventure. When not serving the oncology population, Camp<br />

Kindle provides meaningful experiences for other groups such as children’s medical groups, outdoor<br />

school, b<strong>and</strong>s, choirs <strong>and</strong> corporate groups.<br />

THE POSITION<br />

The catering <strong>and</strong> housekeeping manager position is a permanent full-time position directly accountable<br />

to the Camp & Community program director of <strong>Kids</strong> <strong>Cancer</strong> <strong>Care</strong> Foundation of Alberta. The general<br />

function of this position is to manage all food services, housekeeping <strong>and</strong> hosting of non-programming<br />

groups renting the facilities.<br />

ACCOUNTABILITY<br />

Reporting directly to the director of Camp & Community programs, the catering <strong>and</strong> housekeeping<br />

manager is an integral part of the camp operations team including the camp program manager <strong>and</strong><br />

maintenance manager. The catering <strong>and</strong> housekeeping manager will be expected to work cooperatively<br />

with all staff, volunteers <strong>and</strong> rental groups using the facilities. The suitable c<strong>and</strong>idate will have good<br />

communications skills <strong>and</strong> must enjoy working with children.<br />

SALARY<br />

The salary is commensurate with experience <strong>and</strong> qualifications.<br />

RESPONSIBILITIES<br />

In accordance with the approved KCC policies, the catering <strong>and</strong> housekeeping manager will be<br />

responsible for the following operations, protocols <strong>and</strong> services related to Camp Kindle:<br />

General Duties<br />

• Be aware of the needs of young people with a history of cancer <strong>and</strong> their families. Develop<br />

menus that will meet the special needs of children <strong>and</strong> families;<br />

• Operating the catering <strong>and</strong> housekeeping services within the annual budget;<br />

• Complete monthly reporting as required <strong>and</strong> submit employee timesheets as directed;<br />

• Complete all HR practices when hiring <strong>and</strong> supervising kitchen <strong>and</strong> housekeeping employees;<br />

• Maintain accurate inventory of kitchen equipment <strong>and</strong> supplies <strong>and</strong> order food <strong>and</strong> supplies as<br />

required;<br />

• Coordinate bookings with the camp program manager, collect fees from non-program groups.


Health & Safety<br />

• The facilities will be used for specialized oncology camps, camps for children with chronic illness<br />

<strong>and</strong> children’s charity groups; therefore a superior level of cleanliness <strong>and</strong> hygiene will be<br />

required in all facilities;<br />

• Acquire a clear underst<strong>and</strong>ing of childhood cancer issues <strong>and</strong> the hygienic st<strong>and</strong>ards required<br />

for immune compromised individuals;<br />

• Report any problems with equipment, risks, issues in the kitchen;<br />

• Ensure that all health <strong>and</strong> safety codes are followed;<br />

• Follow specific dietary requirements for campers <strong>and</strong> staff;<br />

• Underst<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> implement allergy-control procedures when necessary;<br />

• Appropriate record keeping regarding allergies <strong>and</strong> special meal requirements;<br />

• Scheduling <strong>and</strong> assigning duties for all kitchen <strong>and</strong> cleaning staff;<br />

• Follow procedures for opening <strong>and</strong> closing the kitchen.<br />

Food Preparation<br />

• Oversee <strong>and</strong> organize the preparation, serving <strong>and</strong> cleaning;<br />

• Design <strong>and</strong> plan menus for camp sessions, camp activities <strong>and</strong> day-use catering for user groups;<br />

• Be flexible to special dietary requests that may occur last minute;<br />

• Work with staff or user-groups for special theme meals;<br />

• Help staff with food-related programs;<br />

• Cater to all diets including vegetarian or religious-based restrictions.<br />

Administration<br />

• Hire, train <strong>and</strong> supervise kitchen <strong>and</strong> cleaning staff (cooks, dishwashers, cook’s helpers,<br />

cleaners);<br />

• Implement appropriate evaluation systems of kitchen operations, <strong>and</strong> facility cleaning;<br />

• Supervise <strong>and</strong> implement camp recycling program;<br />

• Be responsible for proper care, cleaning <strong>and</strong> storage of all kitchen equipment;<br />

• Liaise with the camp management team to coordinate schedules <strong>and</strong> catering needs for usergroups;<br />

• Represent KCC <strong>and</strong> foster excellent relationships with user groups.<br />

Client Relations/Hosting<br />

• Development <strong>and</strong> implementation of hosting practices to support non-programming groups;<br />

• Establishing <strong>and</strong> training employees in the role of hosting, customer service <strong>and</strong> client care;<br />

• Coordinate catering <strong>and</strong> non-programming bookings including room bookings <strong>and</strong> A.V. needs.<br />

Marketing <strong>and</strong> Sales<br />

• Play a key role in generating revenue through camp rentals <strong>and</strong> catering;<br />

• Work collaboratively with the marketing team to develop marketing plans <strong>and</strong> generate sales;<br />

• Work closely with the camp program manager in scheduling bookings, completing rental<br />

agreements <strong>and</strong> collecting fees.<br />

• Oversee hosting <strong>and</strong> hospitality for non-camp programmed events <strong>and</strong> services at Camp Kindle.


QUALIFICATIONS<br />

• Must provide a current Level II Criminal Records Check with includes vulnerable sector;<br />

• Able to provide own transportation;<br />

• Ability to work independently <strong>and</strong> as part of a team;<br />

• Minimum of ten years kitchen/cooking experience;<br />

• Current valid driver’s license & acceptable driver’s abstract;<br />

• Advanced food safety certificate.<br />

• Preference will be given to non-smokers.<br />
