Purpose <strong>of</strong> the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> <strong>Autism</strong> <strong>Spectrum</strong> <strong>Disorder</strong> Guideline<br />
This guideline intends to provide guidance on autism spectrum disorder (ASD)<br />
in both children and adults in <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>. The guideline is an evidence-based<br />
summary that covers identification and diagnosis <strong>of</strong> ASD, and ongoing assessment<br />
and access to interventions and services for individuals with ASD. It seeks to provide<br />
the best evidence currently available to aid informed decision-making to improve the<br />
health, educational and social outcomes for people with ASD. The guideline is for<br />
use by primary care practitioners, education pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, policy makers, funders,<br />
parents, carers, specialists and any others who provide for people with ASD.<br />
