Last week Kings Treasurer Mike Mowery visited
South Lebanon Elementary as a special guest
reader in Peggy Allen’s Title 1 Kindergarten and
1st grade classes. He read “Possum Come
a’knockin.”
Hydrologist Visits CIS
SLE Students Publish Poetry Books
When Josie Pong set out to write her poetry book, she didn’t focus on one
topic. Instead she wrote about a lot of different things; the fall, a silly person,
and much more.
This year students in Mrs. Kelly Parker’s class at South Lebanon Elementary
wrote and published poetry books. Students wrote and illustrated seven poems
for their books. Mrs. Parker then worked with www.studentreasures.com
to have the books published.
Justin Berg’s book includes funny poems and crazy poems. He said the project
was hard work but well worth it.
Other third grade classes also wrote books. Some of the younger grades are
making class books, Mrs. Parker said.
Paul Schuster, Hydrologist with the United
States Geological Survey in Colorado, visited
Columbia Intermediate School on Thursday,
Dec. 20.
In Janie Winterhalter’s Science class at CIS students
have been studying geology and how it
relates to the environment.
Mr. Schuster wowed students with pictures and
stories about an expedition he and his team
went on to the Fremont Glacier. He talked to
students about the many exciting aspects of his
job, including living on a glacier for several
months, traveling throughout the United
States, designing and building instruments, and
much more. He also brought along his large rock
collection which includes different kinds of
quartz, igneous rock, and much more.
