Events “Association of Dutch Business People?” Text and Photos Wilco Alberda The Annual General Meeting on 15 March, in the 20 th year of ADB’s existence, is to be called a success. With 48 attendees, it is a record-breaking meeting in ADB’s successful history. There are several possible reasons for the success of this year’s meeting: First, the sharp increase (26%) in the number of ADB members in 2009. This might partially explain the 78% increase in attendance compared to last year. Second, the drinks after the meeting might have been an incentive for Dutch businessmen and women to come and enjoy this opportunity to network. Third, the relative increase in the number of women in the ADB, which brings up unprecedented emotions in the female counterparts of the Dutch Businessmen: One brave woman stood up during the meeting and gave a tremendous plea on the importance of Dutch women in Singapore business. The Board immediately acknowledged the significance of her plea by proposing a name change into “Association of Dutch Business People”, for two main reasons: 1) to promote ADB as a group of individuals and not a group of representatives of companies, hence the “People”. 2) The same initials can be used, so that no new investments have to be made in stationery and other promotion material. However, the decision could not be taken instantly, as according to the Articles of Association of the ADB a quorum has to be held during an ADB meeting with 25% of the members present to decide on a name change. To break another record this year, and to support the indispensable women within the Association, the Board urges its members to show up during the Dinner and Dance in August, during which a quorum on the name change will be held, when at least 25% of the members will attend (equal to about 113 members). Furthermore, the Board proposed, in order to increase sponsor income, to modernize the current sponsor packages. Sponsors will now be attracted using Membership Packages, e.g. Bronze-Silver-Gold Memberships. Part of a Gold-Membership would then be that the sponsor may use the ADB database once for marketing purposes. It does not mean that the sponsor will get access to all information on the members from the database, but that the ADB will distribute the marketing material on behalf of the sponsor. A vote was cast and the majority agreed to this proposal. Mrs. Marie-Hélène Piederiet, the lovely Honorary Secretary, was promoted with a majority of the votes to Vice President.
