SUNDAY MORNING GROW OPPORTUNITIES
Discover. Connect. Grow.
Aldersgate currently offers 12 unique opportunities on
Sunday morning to connect with a small group for
spiritual growth and fellowship. This brochure
highlights each of the twelve Sunday classes and
provides contact information as well as class
locations. If you have any questions or would like
more information, please don’t hesitate to contact our
Director of Adult Ministries, Mary Stokes, at
mary@aldersgate-slidell.org or 985.641.5829.
Sundays
9:45 a.m.

Cokesbury Building
Our Cokesbury Building is to the left of the Sanctuary as you are facing the front entrance. On Sunday
mornings, nine of our adult discipleship classes meet here. Throughout the week the building is used for
midweek studies, various ministry team meetings such as CARE Team, Missions Team, and Evangelism. It
is also where Administrative Committees like Trustees and Finance hold their meetings. It houses a small
kitchen and our church library.
To Be Determined
Amy Willis, 985-288-0718
amy_willis@hotmail.com
There is no set demographic
for our group; some are married,
some are single, and some are single
again. Some attend with their
spouses, and some attend alone.
Many of us have children ranging in
age from toddlers to teens. Most of
us are between 30 and 50 years of
age, but that’s not a requirement!
We are challenged by the
truths of scripture and we are
encouraged to follow through during
the week in real and tangible ways.
We enjoy candid discussion, value
honest self-evaluation, and
encourage each other. Our class
would be more complete if you
would join us.

Lost and Found
Mike Rich, 985-641-7365
mikerich@mypontchartrain.com
Every Sunday morning, this group of 50 year olds and above meets for about 50 minutes
of non-stop spiritual challenge (and a lot of fun, too). Using the weekly lectionary sanctioned by
the United Methodist Church as our grounding, we explore how holy scripture meets life and
attempt to discern God’s call to us amid the noise of living. Once a month, we take a break
from our work to enjoy a cherished event: meeting for dinner at the home of a class member
(or sometimes a restaurant), where good food becomes our focus, fellowship shifts into high
gear, and the nurturing we provide to each other becomes real.
Our classroom door is wide open. If you enjoy lively discussion and aren’t shy about
examining how God works in our world, we’ve got a place for you.
Kaleidoscope
Cokesbury 203
Pam Wesley, 985-649-3280
Pam@hrockerelectric.com
Just as a Kaleidoscope contains bits and pieces
of colored glass in all shapes and sizes that form a
beautiful pattern when looked at in the light, we
believe that we come together in God’s light to reflect
and share God’s grace.
We are a group
of women in all stages
of life who are
constantly evolving. We
focus on enriching our
lives through Bible
study, personal
encouragement, prayer,
regular get-togethers,
and community service.
You are welcome to join
us and introduce a new
dimension to our group.

How can men live with Christ-like character?
What are our responsibilities and obligations as a
man in today’s society? Through Bible study, we
begin to learn what God intends for us in every
aspect of life—as workers, leaders, fathers, sons and
husbands. Regardless of age or background, there’s a
place for you at the table.
Come explore with us.
We enjoy lively discussions about the Bible and its application to our daily lives. Several in
the class facilitate the discussions. We are challenged to live beyond ourselves and to serve others.
We especially enjoy celebrating life events with each other such as graduations, weddings and the
birth of grandchildren. We keep in touch with each other through fellowship events beyond the
classroom. We are predominantly a couples class with college age and young adult children, but
we’re not limited by that! Come join us.

Adventurers
Cokesbury 206
Monty Peffley, 985-643-3514
monty@peffley.org
In our studies, we seek to live by the
Methodist credo “we think, and let think.” We strive
to be accepting, thoughtful and attentive to beliefs
different from our own, in order to show God’s love
to others, and to open ourselves to personal growth.
In our seeking, we look to the Wesleyan
quadrilateral—scripture, reason, tradition, and
experience to form and ground our beliefs.
Our class consists of men, women, young,
young-at-heart, married, single and single again. We
cover a range of topics from traditional Bible study
to practical theology works. Recent studies include
several books by Adam Hamilton, Toxic Charity by
Robert Lupton, and Your God is Too Small by J.B.
Phillips.
We do not neglect the “three F’s” of Food,
Fun and Fellowship. We minister to each other in a
loving supportive atmosphere, and we strive to
extend that ministry to others through service and
love. We welcome you to join us.

...but with God all things are possible.
Matthew 19:26
We like to discuss topics that are
relevant and up-to-date with our eyes focused
on Biblical teachings. We enjoy our time of study
and fellowship and seek ways to serve.
Our interests are varied and we find
ourselves in different life stages. These
differences make our discussion richer and we
often gain new perspectives. Wherever you are
in your faith journey, we welcome you to join us.
We are a brand new
young adult class inviting
adults ages 35 and under to
gather each Sunday for
discussion, prayer,
reflection, scripture reading
and fellowship. This is the
perfect time to get involved.
Come start your
week on a focused path of
study and worship.

Cokesbury 209
Dale and Lisa Kimball, 985-645-9889
Dkimball@epworthproject.com; brighton_queen@yahoo.com
We are a weekly accountability group
that studies God's word in a non-traditional
class setting. We enjoy discussing everyday
events and sharing weekly personal experiences
to bring the scriptures to life. We support each
other; challenge each other; and seek to serve
Christ wherever we are. We range in age from
early 40's to late 50's. Some of us are married,
some are single, and some are single again.
We intentionally have new discussions
each week to accommodate people with busy
lives. We enjoy fellowship and mission projects
beyond the classroom. We welcome you to
walk, to share and to grow with us.

Journeys of Light
Asbury 501
Charlie Barron, 985-649-5837
ccbarron@bellsouth.net
Asbury Building
Our Asbury Building is to the right of the Sanctuary as you are facing the front entrance. On Sunday
mornings, our Journeys of Light adult discipleship class meets here. Throughout the week the
building is used for midweek studies, church administrative committee meetings and various Boy
Scout and Girl Scout activities.
All ages are welcome because age is not really important to our class identity. We are 30-70, married
and single; some with children ages 3 and up; some with grandchildren. Some of our members choose
traditional worship and some choose the contemporary.
We have discussion oriented studies on a variety of topics using Bible passages to understand God's
guidance in our present faith journeys. We grow and encourage each other to grow together.
We seek to build strong, authentic relationships by setting aside time to share our joys and concerns.
We enjoy a monthly breakfast of pancakes in class on the last Sunday of every month and periodically enjoy
times of fellowship and service beyond Sunday morning. Wherever you are in your personal journey, you are
welcome to walk with us.

Chapel
Our Chapel is to the right of the Sanctuary as you are facing the front entrance. On Sunday
mornings, our New Life Believers adult discipleship class meets here and on Sunday evenings it is
used for our children’s choir program. The chapel is a sacred space for weddings, funerals, spiritual
retreat events and our contemplative worship services.
We are a combination of several classes that
have united over the years. As a result, we come from
many backgrounds but all with a single purpose - to
study the word of God. We are a Bible-based class
whose studies mainly focus on individual books of the
Bible. Most of our members are 50 and older, but that
is not a requirement!
Warren Haun, 985-641-8620
warhaun@charter.net
We enjoy field trips and recently we traveled to the Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery,
AL and we also went to see "To Kill a Mockingbird" in Monroeville, AL, the town which served as
the setting for this literary classic. We celebrate with a Christmas party each year and look
forward to our crawfish boil in the summer.
We support outreach with our presence and our gifts. Many work with Kairos prison
ministry and we also choose to financially support two students at the Toledo Christian Academy,
a K-12 school, in Belize, Central America. We actively welcome you to join us at any time.
