MOLY-PAUL 700 & 900 SERIES
Sealing, Lubrication and Release of Refractory Products
The MOLY-PAUL® 900 and 700 Product Series are fume-free and non toxic product ranges that
are specially made for the "FLOW CONTROL" area of steel making. Their prime functions are to reduce
the wear and extend the life of refractory parts. These high performance products are based
upon naturally occurring minerals, synthetic and natural graphites, vegetable oils and water. Special
additives are used as passive or active anti-oxidants. All of the products are harmless to the environment.
MOLY-PAUL® 900 and 919 are pastes that can be applied by spatula, brush, roller or sponge.
They can be used to finish both new and refurbished refractory plate surfaces.
MOLY-PAUL® 942 FAV is a low-shrinking product that fills surface imperfections.
MOLY-PAUL® 912 is a low friction emulsion that is applied in steel works. It is used on rotary sliding
gate valve plates and the plates of linear furnace tap-hole gates to reduce wear and control friction.
By design, MOLY-PAUL® 930 and 950 are available for use with atomising spray equipment such
as hand-held spray guns and purpose built automatic systems. The products can be used on all
types of refractory materials and in all working conditions.
The General Information (page 4) identifies the products that contain anti-oxidants.
The coatings are continuous bonded dry thin films that are smooth and give an oxidation and wear
resistant surface. When dry they are primarily low friction neutral refractory materials.
MOLY-PAUL® 715 is for the coating of continuous casting moulds. It is suitable for both "startercasting"
and "link-casting" procedures. In the concentrated form is a pseudo-plastic suspension that
on drying effectively prevents molten steel from adhering to the mould faces during initial casting
procedures. The product is applied with a paint sponge or roller. The spray applied aqueous suspension
MOLY-PAUL® 750 is specifically formulated for use on thin slab caster moulds.
MOLY-PAUL® 783 is a highly specialised non-melt grease paste with a natural oil base fluid that
forms a bonded dry high purity graphite film on exposure to heat in the caster mould.
MOLY-PAUL® 959 and MOLY-PAUL®979 are mould release products for monolithic refractory
formers and moulds. MOLY-PAUL® 979 is used for the release of heat cured dry-mix resin bonded
materials. Both products are compatible with wooden, laminate, plastic, metal and composite mould
formers. They can be used in conjunction with all commonly used refractory materials, bonding
agents and fillers. Application is by atomising spray gun, paint brush, paint roller or a painting pad
or sponge.
PRODUCT - INFORMATION
MOLY-PAUL ® 994
The primary application area is its use as a release agent for assembly mortars placed between refractory
ladle and tundish components. Typical locations are between the slide gate well block to
inner nozzle, joints between plates and nozzles and changeable nozzles. It is also recommended for
ladle gas purging well block and cone assemblies and the joints between
tundish well blocks and submerged nozzles.
The material hinders the sintering / bonding of ceramic refractory masses to mortars and cements
that are used in conjunction with renewable refractory parts. The removal of all parts is made easier,
quicker, more efficient and with minimum waste. The life of steel plant ladle linings is enhanced
through reduced collateral damage.
MOLY-PAUL ® 994 is also used by steel workers in the ladle "make-up" areas to enhance process
capability and increase refractory life through reduced friction and wear of the refractory plate sliding
surfaces. This product is designed for atomised spray application onto hot surfaces. It is applied
through the collector nozzle/plate bore, or to exposed refractory plate surfaces located in "open"
slide gate valve mechanisms. Both application methods introduce a non-stick neutral refractory
coating to the working I sliding refractory surfaces and offset the problems caused by carbon losses
from the buIk refractory.
MOLY-PAUL ® 994 is a release agent for joint connections and ensures the rapid and trouble-free
replacement of all ceramic parts. It does not accumulate through successive applications to form an
open joint between the ceramic parts and can be applied with a simple hand held, compressed
Air atomizing spray gun.
