Bricklayer Occupation<br />

MAJOR TASKS / SUBTASKS (SKILLS):<br />

1. Lay brick to the line<br />

a. Use a chalk line<br />

b. Establish horizontal coursing<br />

c. Spread mortar for bed joints<br />

d. Butter bricks<br />

e. Attach line blocks<br />

f. Set trig brick<br />

g. Lay masonry units to a line<br />

h. Lay closure bricks<br />

i. Plumb jambs<br />

j. Cut brick in half and to length<br />

k. Joint brick<br />

Note: Brick walls should include stretcher bond and common bond<br />

2. Build common type leads<br />

a. Construct straight brick lead<br />

b. Construct brick outside corner lead<br />

c. Construct brick inside corner lead<br />

d. Construct concrete block straight lead<br />

e. Construct concrete block outside corner lead<br />

f. Construct concrete block inside corner lead<br />

3. Use safety equipment and procedures<br />

a. Wear appropriate clothing and equipment<br />

i. clothing<br />

ii. boots and shoes<br />

iii. headgear<br />

iv. goggles and glasses<br />

v. gloves<br />

vi. tuck hair under hard hat securely<br />

b. Arrange materials safely in the work area<br />

c. Use tools safely and maintain in good repair<br />

d. Use ladders safely<br />

e. Remove nails from lumber<br />

f. Avoid hazards of overhead falling objects<br />

g. Suspend work in immediate area while materials are being moved by Crane<br />

h. Avoid hazards of protruding objects<br />

i. Exercise care on scaffolding<br />

j. Lift objects safely<br />

k. Avoid chemical burns<br />

l. Keep work path, under-feet, clear<br />

4. Build 100mm veneer panel walls in stretcher bond<br />

a. Estimate materials<br />
