Bricklayer Occupation<br />

MAJOR TASKS / SUBTASKS (SKILLS):<br />

1. Build 100mm or 150mm concrete block walls and partitions<br />

a. Build in control joints<br />

b. Build in metal frames and rough backs<br />

c. Cut concrete blocks to receive electrical outlets, conduit, pipe, etc.<br />

d. Build intersecting walls<br />

2. Build 200mm concrete block walls with openings<br />

a. Estimate masonry materials<br />

b. Operate masonry saw<br />

c. Build control joints<br />

d. Cut standard corner blocks for bond beam units<br />

e. Build intersecting walls<br />

f. Install bond beam blocks<br />

g. Set lintels<br />

3. Build 250mm concrete block foundations<br />

a. Lay out foundation walls<br />

b. Square layout using 3-4-5 method<br />

c. Build special corners for 250mm walls<br />

d. Parge foundation<br />

e. Place grounds<br />

f. Place anchor bolts<br />

4. Build grouted reinforced concrete block masonry walls<br />

a. Prepare masonry to receive grout<br />

b. Place vertical and horizontal reinforcing<br />

5. Point and repair existing masonry<br />

a. Protect existing finished areas<br />

b. Remove old masonry units clean and re-lay<br />

c. Chisel out and re-point joints<br />

6. Cut openings and build frames in masonry<br />

a. Protect existing finished areas<br />

b. Cut openings and tooth<br />

c. Salvage old units<br />

d. Shore old masonry as required<br />

e. Check doors and window frames before installation for<br />

i. alignment with wall<br />

ii. jambs being plumb<br />

iii. header being level<br />

iv. frame being square<br />

v. spacers being present in centre frame<br />

vi. header reinforcement<br />

vii. anchors present (metal frame)<br />

viii. rigidity<br />
